Testing Short Posts with Zappl!

in zappl •  7 years ago

After months of doing one post a day, starting today I am using @zappl at https://zappl.com/@jerrybanfield to write several 240 character or less posts a day including a picture and/or a YouTube video. What do you prefer reading?

Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.

Sort Order:

I personally prefer short format with a key exception. The message must actually get across. I don't want to read 2 pages of ramblings if the core idea can be shared in 240 characters. That being said not all ideas can be shared so briefly so at times I appreciate a more traditional Steemit post.

I will use Zappl more once they do some updates to the Android experience. If I'm wanting to share a short message it's usually because I'm on a mobile device. The current app experience won't allow me to even share much less add a picture to the post. Once that's adjusted I'll be 100% in!

Patrick thank you for letting me know you prefer the short format because it seems a lot of us do and this is one of the only formats I have not tested prior to this in eight months on Steem!

cool Jerry - I've yet to explore zappl - thanks for the highlight

Well we look forward to seeing more content from you @jerrybanfield

oke zappl

Very good application @zappl best👍

agree

Hi @zappl, how does your system work? and why not install helper services in your work? is not that a good idea

agree

Nice post

Jerry you are loaded with info, so it will be definitely welcome and better for all steemians.
Some information require steemit.
Keep on steemin’

Jerrybanfield number one is the best

My posts are typically shorter than longer, and I would say it depends on the subject your are writing about.

Long opinionated posts deserve to be as long as they want. The writer needs to have freedom to explain their whole point of view, and allow the reader to get the whole story.

On the other hand, posting a pic and a short explanation about it warrants a few paragraphs. No need for a long drawn out post. Same goes for posts with videos. The video will tell the story.

I think both approaches can be successful if the content is well written.

Good luck with your strategy, and thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I would also love to use Zappl, but as long as there is no way to filter the short messages from my Steemit blog yet and I don´t want to make a second account just to share casual short messages, I´ll have to wait!

Steemit does need to add this, With the rise of D.tube, D.sound, https://dmania.lol/, and zapple , we need some type of filter. Wish their was a way to contact them :(

Filters that we could select or set up would be great. They should also get rid of the useless promoted tab/process and just have them incorporated into the regular stream. Then the promoted tab could be for our custom filter.

Zappl is slow-working kind of twitter? Not bad idea.

I honestly don't like it it does not belong here on steemit or at least should not be in the main feed. It really degrades the quality here on steemit. I tested it out last night and decided I wont be using it till something changes.

It was made to look like Twitter so...
It a trade off, I like it but understand it may look like spam to others. But zappl is a great idea

Sean so far that is what I had thought too until I considered how many comments on my posts ask for them to be shorter, how much the comments contribute to the SEO, and how many images might rank in Google search based on the images. Additionally all of my posts get shared to Facebook and Twitter meaning doing more every day helps me bring more people to Steem. I would prefer a filter option as well and I believe future versions will make it easier to separate types of posts.

ah that is a good point I didn't think about a simple post having massive amounts of comments and within those comments is where the value would be instead. For sure makes you look at it a bit differently. Works in progress I am sure it will continue to advance thanks for the feedback and new prospective.

It would be better though if @zappl will restrict the appearance of their contents within the Zappl platform only--the same thing can be said to @dmania. But I guess this is the job of @steemit, not the other way around.

I would like to see a way to filter out certain apps as well.
I think that Zappl post should remain in the zappl realm. The shorter post have a place in the STEEM blockchain but I think that steemit should offer a filter where you can disable certain categories frombeing a part of the main feed. I do use zappl about 2 times a week but find the brevity of the post unbecoming of a steemit blog post for the most part. Filters would make this 100% appealing. We have NSFW filter so we know it can be done. Perhaps this may something we find in Hardfork 20.

Hi @jerrybanfield some saying that zappl is picking keys without permissions. Like today zappl declaration to MIT means not a fully open source but somehow partial.
And i think some people are getting afraid using because of how keys have being collected.
I think you can look into this for the full security of steemians , also zappl should make a post on this in other to eliminate fears.

Zappl does not collect keys in any way. The source is visible to all to view and how angular works. Zappl currently processes the transactions via the server. But its not collecting keys and this can be seen in your browser. So people are clearly spreading fud. Also with any site not using steem connect it is only recommended to use posting keys.

Its cool and lovely for this reply. I think zappl if posible need to make an excellent post in other to clear any fears in steemit ecosystem. I am a zappl user also and believe in zappl thus the advise. I love zappl ideas

Bitcoin does have an Mit license so....

Yes i know, but there are fear in some community and im working on it also to understand more

IMG-20180211-WA0052.jpg

Great job, also mention bitcoin has it to so they understand

Ok welcome

Zappl is fully open source. Our own custom plugins for competitive edge are not. Zappl is still a privately owned and registered company.

Any plugins that we have there is code for on the public end how they interact with the source code. Just like wordpress its open source but not all plugins people make are public.

Cool, i think i deserve an award bringing this issue here. Many post in utopian got rejected or unvoted for this reason of some not understanding how open is zappl. I think a clear separate post is needed on this issue from zappl in other to clear all douth

The read on the github is pretty public.

https://github.com/Zappl/Zappl

Ok i get it. I wish you can have time and chat any utopian supervisors or overseers on this issue , so that contributors can contribute on zappl without fear of rejection.

This is already listed on utopian it has been for months. And users have been getting rewarded for months.

@jerrybanfield , do you not think that the rise of the zappl and dmania is kind of 'dumbing down' the ecosystem ? I just think its sad that sooner or later, our feeds maybe full of short posts and the quality content long posts that many provide for our entertainment and more importantly, education may got lost in a cacophony of dross ?
Best wishes to you :-)

A filter option must be applied in the future. We have so many platforms and projects on top of steem, we definitely need a filter.

absolutely agree mate, but I just hate seeing people posting shite, copied memes on dmania in particular and then receiving huge rewards for them, just sullies it a bit I think. Perhaps the reward pool needs adjustment also.

the only reason they are getting big rewards it's because each one of those alternative platforms has a huge delegation "from above" to upvote content and hence create traction. They are just not using it in the right way. Only @utopian-io is doing a good job on upvotes but they are working on a different level with a lot of moderators that are doing a hell of a job.

Don't worry, that can easily be remedied by applying some kind of front-end restrictions.

It can and I know I'm jumping the gun a little as everything develops, but it's more the quality and just rewards that concern me somewhat!
We will leave it in the hands of the witnesses we put out faith in!

Well, shit posting is happening every where, even on Steemit. Let's see where do these new developments lead us.

If Steem fails, EOS is just around the corner after all. Keep calm and Steem on.

ooooo controversial...but true ;-)

Nathen I have been hesistant to even test @zappl or any shorter posting strategy because of this too. The more I think about it, I see many benefits to the Steem blockchain on shorter posts.

Ok, cheers. I will look forward to a future post when you outline these benefits !! thanks for taking the time to respond mate :-)

I would love to read those benefits

amazing post all of your post was amazing i like to read your post i inspired from you carry on @jerrybanfield upvoted and resteemed

I too think zappl is really great especially for those who like twitter. This is one thing I will start using:)

@jerrybanfield I prefer reading near death experience

HAPPY ZAPPLING👏👏👏😉😉😉

I have never used Zappl but today I will try it Thank you @jerrybanfield

I know a lot of people believe in only post which are longer, which surely has it's merits, but on the same side, meanwhile short posts, which normally while is frowned upon on steemit, now coming through Zappl, which is built like twitter, adds a lot of value as they are more social and meant to be more interactive.

Example : Take a food blog for instance, You might have a post with 2500 words and 20 photos in it roughly, which is great but a Zap or a Vzap when put out for the same situation is meant to have more of your followers interact.
Maybe like having a filter like how so many people talked about here might be helpful for people who are not in favor of shorter post, but when I follow someone I would not care if the person has written out an essay for me to read or if he has just sent out his thoughts on something through Zap. Both works great for me.

For people who would love to join the Zappl community on discord, Please click here

Oh no... Twitter limited character posts were already annoying as it is... xD But that might be a good idea for people that doesn't have much bandwidth on the platform, make it uses less bandwidth accordingly to it's very short nature ?

Hey Jerry, can i use your face in a game, appearing all of a sudden while screaming "STEEMY !" when my main character (Steemdya) uses a super ability and does a critical damage ? please ? :D

Give me your written authorization please :(

Sure you are welcome to use any of my pictures!

Wooooah thank you very much i would have never thought you would answer or even read in a million years xD Thanks !! This is really really super cool ^^ Thank you ^^

The one thing I love about Steemit is the amount of tools developed here. I think the user base will decide if its something added to the platform. I don't judge content by the length anyway. I judge content by the standard of did I learn something. To me any content that I read and learned something is good content. Keep doing what you do Jerry.
i-upvoted-this.jpglogosteem.png

I think there has to be space for all kinds of posts as there is a reason for each. The in depth, the short etc. eg I don't personally use my twitter as it's too short but there is obviously a huge demand for it.

Thanks for all your work Jerry. You're an inspiration.

Well I think that that is the exact kind of app that newbies can use. Longer posts is great but if it is all waffle then nobody reads it and if they do feel cheated.

Beautiful information really amazing post thanks for sharing.....resteemed

You are a person that never disappoints.
You always share very informative post.
I hope to see more in the future.
Your strategy is quite amazing and thanks for sharing it us.
I didn't know about Zappl but I will surely use Zappl it now because of you recommendation.
@jerrybanfield

this is really amazing post
thanks for sharing this @jerrybanfield
upvoted and resteem

Here's a plan...instead of posting shite arse licking comments like this, I challenge you to write me a 500 word article on any topic that you're passionate about. Include a couple of original photos. In return, I will resteem it, upvote it to my lowly max and follow you.
If not, I'll flag you to dust.
Do we have a deal my friend ? :-)

After months he's younger using @ zappl at @joelpaseearon "> https://zappl.com/@joelpaseearon to write 240 characters, and it's easier, amazing when we post on @zappl and more easily, amazingly

Aww sir i have a Question ?

          . ... How can i create a Z account as like you sir ??

And this blog is very interesting :)

@upvoted

Use the posting key from Steem to sign into @zappl!

Oky trying to sign in sir :) thanks You sir you are really great :):)))))

Hey Jerry.

I found Zappl off your previous post and took a look, thing that worries me about this kind of platform is Steemvoter.
I actually did a vlog/blog about it because those of us that are getting upvotes through steemvoter might end up losing votes and followers if the platform is not used correctly.
So I am kind of thinking then do I just zapp short messages and make them unpaid, I welcome thoughts on this guys???

@crazybgadventure I have had this fear also and the problem is those with us on @steemvoter still end up voting on an unpaid post anyway. I am going to test it and see what happens!

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Sometimes it's good to do a little microblogging (the keep it short and simple kinda thing or you have a little idea to share and you don't want to write too much or maybe even dropping a little update about a particular thing or event) and zappl fits in perfectly and gets the job done.

What do you prefer reading?

You can drop short punchy motivational quotes, or a short humour post will do

Zappl

Twitter is dead! Hello Zappl and Gab.

Helpful post. I didnt knew about this before. Now i can make it easy to read.

Thanks you sir..
this is very useful for me.
That for share

What are the credentials needed to be able to log in to this platform @jerrybanfield?

Steem posting key!

I have to say I really like your long posts Jerry! They are really informative and I know that some people prefer concise information, but I love reading your long posts.

Luke thank you I will still be doing some longer ones also and I appreciate you letting me know you like them long!

Great to hear, no problem!

This is like a twitter on Steem? I would like to try it out as well!

Nice information a post

Mr.jerry

nice post

Any witty post that will inspire newbies like myself to work extra hard...

I like all your posts

This is nice I would like to try this. I will use that for my daily Boracay vacation. Who created this?? Did you create Zappl. Excited to try it tomorrow .
Thanks for sharing..
Voted you as witness .. Congrats your in top 50..

Thank you so much for giving me the link.. Happy to join I made one post there but I think you can only post one picture and one video.. That is not usually I post so will see if that works for me.. my long post and good content doesn't do well anyway.. So I don't know makes me discouraged about Steemit.. I will visit your YouTube channel now.. :)

Yea

I like zappl so much because it will make you to be precise and go straight to the point.thanks to the brain behind this exceptional technology.

i feel people misunderstand it as spam

This is very unusual of Jerrybanfield. It is usually lengthy posts. By the way, can we say that Zappl users/posts aren't quality enough 'cos of the 240 letters allowance? What's our gauge/yardstick for measuring quality content. Quantity of words or quality? How can these add up please?

I'd say the message.

Finally, I made it on steemit. I found ya on youtube. Your enery!!

Thank you @jerrybanfield
for this informative post

Good developing, nice 👍

It looks like it will become a great experience and will add and renew the site to SteEMIT

Does this suggest that steemit itself is no place for short posts? Is there an advantage of going thru zappl vs posting straight here?

I personally prefer reading more about the steemit community no matter how short it is and also get more stories about your success in the steemit community and how minnows like us can succeed too .

How does @zappl work? I can't find where to upload my picture when making a post. Can you help @jerrybanfield

@zizymena you can check out this tutorial:
https://steemit.com/dtube/@temitopebanks/1r26og30

Hope it helps you out.

your update is alwaseuseful usfull ,I always follow your post and update.good job.

Since You already have quiet a big following from steemit I think that would be fun for more relaxed daily posts where People can be in touch with You and know You better :D

And there he is Jerry B! welcome to Zappl!

I like it very much

@jerrybanfield, @zappl does the uploading of pictures works in zappl?

@juwel yes it does

I can't upload pictures in zappl. :(

@juwel thats kind of strange, have clicked on the picture icon below
![zappl.JPG()

Good post my friend

@jerrybanifield short form content are usually pretty easy to create and @zappl is meeting that need on the platform so yay! The app needs some work though as posts keep on disappearing sometimes. I shared about 10 zaps and discovered only 2 actually got posted lol.My friends seem to be having a great time on the platform though. I just uploaded a simple review on @zappl on Dtube. You can check it out here:

https://steemit.com/dtube/@temitopebanks/1r26og30

Wow this is really cool

Hi @jerrybanfield
Thank you for introducing zappl.
It's so good to know that Steem is growing day by day.
Dtube, steepshot, dmania etc. and now Zappl - I just don't know what to say and I cannot express how happy I am!

Nice updete

I did it! But let me try to do posting? Hehehe...

why in the zappl application does not provide columns for tags or more clear why in @zappl we can not add tags other than zappl

I don't get the point. Tweeting and blogging always have been two different things. Maybe two sides of the same coin, but not really comparable. Also, you don't need zappl to write a short post, just do it on steemit ;)

Nice post
Really nice (y)
I like it

I always https://zappl.com, but have not got upvotes yet

I honestly prefer a short intro to the vid in the form of text and then the vid.
When I'm listening to podcasts I don't look at them talking ( if it's a YT vid ) but I'm just listening to them talking and I do a lot of things in parallel.
So ye, I prefer hearing you and doing things in parallel than reading.
but it's just me. ( this is why I barely read your posts, only listen to the video. if it's just text i'm reading, but I prefer a vid )

I'm just like you now

Selamat,
Anda tidak mendapatkan hadiah apa apa, dari saya yang ada hanya boh itek koem...hhh

good devoloping @jerrybanfield

Photos are very good and attract attention

Very good
Follow @zulfahri220893

Photos are very good and attract attention

I tired to do Zappl the other day but was kinda turned away by it, Its still has a ways to go and is not much user friendly i think im going to stick with steem and esteem for now!

Please you vote me

Good post my friend

Amazing!!! Thanks for sharing..
Good post...

When you are providing information, or pleasure, there's nothing wrong in it. just write be it long or short. Appreciate you!
