I am to blame! I was wrong! I am guilty!
I have often seen this Latin phrase translated as through no fault but the above translations are more accurate, because the emphasis is that I (mea) am taking on the blame. In this case I am guilty!
So what did I do wrong? Of what am I guilty? Don't panic, friends. I have not committed any crime or knowingly wronged anyone, but I did realize just in time that I had self-plagiarized! “How on earth can one plagiarize one's own work?” you may rightly ask! Well, I am glad you did ask!
Self-plagiarism occurs when you fail to mention that your work is published elsewhere. So there you have it! Yesterday I cross-posted on both Steemit and Weku and forgot to mention that I was making a similar post elsewhere. Luckily, the posts are new, so I was able to quickly make the change needed on each post to avoid the ethical problem of self-plagiarism!
Please note that when you make your second post with the note that it is published elsewhere, you will also need to access the first post and make the same statement! I hope this will help you in your further decisions to cross-post the same or similar material!

Interesting to know this cross-posting rule about self-plagiarism! And it’s creative of you to make that “my bad” note on top of the fortune cookie messages. :) How’s your experience on Weku? I’ve heard it a lot these days but haven’t tried it yet.

Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting! Self-plagiarism is not just for cross-posting. It is a rule learned in all college English classes that you must always make it clear that you have published the same material elsewhere!
As for Weku, it is early days yet, but I'm finding it very enjoyable, as I don't get lost in the shuffle as much as I do on Steemit. The coins are not yet trading, so it is hard to tell if our "earnings" will amount to much. I do think they will, as there is a very deliberate effort to try to learn from all Steemit's mistakes and to crack down hard on spammers and those plagiarizing right from the start!

That's great to know. Spamming and plagiarizing are indeed serious problems here on Steemit!

I will look for you there. Are you using the same name?

Many people are doing it. I don't agree, see no point in posting the same content more than once.
This article however is helpful.

I had decided not to cross-post, but then decided to experiment a little. I have some new followers on Weku that I don’t have in Steemit, and I also have followers on Steemit who are not on Weku. So, I do see the point to a certain degree.
I imagine that those on both platforms will respond only where they first saw the post, which is fine. On the other hand, I have still tesponded to others on both platforms, sometimes following a totally different train of thought.
The jury is still out for me. I may not continue beyond the first little experiment, or I may!!😊

I'll just stay here and be loyal to Steem, and then I won't have to worry about it!

That’s a good choice too. I thought I did see you over there, but must be mistaken. So many of the people I know are there. For the time being at least, it is very refreshing, as it is much easier for posts to be seen. But time will tell!

I did go over and check it out during the hard Fork, but came to the conclusion that it was not for me. Talk about plagerized! That entire site is!

Wow! I’m not finding that all. Lol! Perhaps I have not looked terribly much further than my own multiple contacts from Steemit. They have a system that cracks down harder than Steemit does on spam and plagiarism when it is reported.

I meant the site itself has been plagiarized. It is a total rip off from Steem.

Ah, I know what you mean now. It is a clone of Steemit, but Steemit used Open Source Code, I learned, when someone asked about it on Weku. Open Source is software which anyone can copy or modify in any way. Steemit doesn’t own the code. It’s generic, and not unique to Steemit. There are websites on the Internet that look almost identical, for the same reason. 😊

I know. I could go copy it tomorrow and put up my own site. But would I? Would you? I think it is completely unethical to copy someone else's work. And then be lazy and enough to not even make a few simple changes to make it look like it might be your own. I think it's disgusting and would never support it.

A huge proportion of websites out there are Open Source templates. The code is written by dozens of coders - not one person. I have used Open Source coding for a website design in the past. Using Open Source is not unethical. It’s there to be used, because the coders want you to use it. Lol!
But I think you are right to follow your own instincts about it. I do the same when I feel strongly about something. That’s why I am letting people know if my work is repeated any place else on the web! 😊
