How long before the wedding should I get my dress altered?

If you are getting your dress from a bridal salon, the seamstress should be onsite and she and your consultant will give you an idea of your timeline. We always started alterations 6 weeks before the wedding, the second fitting was closer to the wedding at least 2 weeks before the wedding. We needed time to do any last minute alterations and steam and hand press the gown.

If you are going to an outside seamstress, you need to make an appointment with her so she has an idea of what your gown needs so she can estimate the time needed to do your alterations and how it fits into her work schedule.

Don’t wait until the last minute. If you are pregnant, make sure you tell them in advance so if they need to order to order extra fabric for gussets, they have time.

Always bring the undergarments you will wear under your gown and the EXACT shoes or heel height to your fitting.

Congratulations and have an awesome wedding!
