Xiao Xiao suddenly remembered, laughing as she slapped her forehead. "Oh, I almost forgot! My luggage is at the security desk on the first floor. I’ll go get it now..."
She began to walk toward the door, but before she could leave, Yin Shaojie grasped her hand, stopping her.
"No need to go down. I'll have them bring it up."
He looked at the tank top she was wearing and furrowed his brow. "You're wearing this and walking around outside?"
Xiao Xiao shook her head. "No, I had a little jacket on when I came back, but it’s so hot here, I couldn’t stand it, so I just took it off."
Yin Shaojie, hearing her explanation, felt somewhat reassured, but still cautioned her, "Don’t dress like this in the country. It’s a bit revealing."
Xiao Xiao snorted. "Revealing? You haven't seen revealing yet!"
Yin Shaojie shot her a disapproving look. "I said in the country! People here are more conservative. Haven't you noticed by now?"
Moreover, despite her petite frame, Xiao Xiao's figure was no small matter. The way she dressed only made it easier for others to gawk.
He tapped his forehead, frustrated with himself. This wasn’t really his problem. Why was he even concerned?
But then he thought of it again—they had been childhood friends. If something happened to her, his family wouldn't just sit idly by. In the end, he’d still be the one to take responsibility.
He called the security desk on the first floor, and soon enough, Xiao Xiao’s luggage was delivered.
She smiled as she saw the security guard out, closing the door behind him. As she was about to drag her luggage toward the guest room, her steps faltered.
Turning around, she pointed to the security system on the door. "Oh, by the way, can you register my palm print? That way, I’ll have an easier time getting in."
Yin Shaojie had thought she was done with her luggage, but she had another request. With his arms crossed, he stared at her and replied, "No. Why should I register your palm print? So you can come and go as you please?"
Xiao Xiao mirrored his posture, crossing her arms, although the height difference made her seem less imposing.
But it didn’t matter. She had her reasoning!
"Because, starting today, I’m living here. If you don’t register my palm print, how am I supposed to get in and out? Are you going to be my personal key?" she said, throwing him a playful sideways glance and grinning mischievously.
Yin Shaojie frowned. "Living here? Who said you could stay here? Did you ask for my permission?"
This was his private space. Though they were childhood friends, it didn’t mean he was ready to have her invade his territory.
Xiao Xiao shrugged, offering an innocent explanation. "Yin Mom told me to live here."
"What’s going on here?" His suspicion grew as he recalled what she had said at the bar, the unfinished words still lingering in his mind.
"You said I was schemed by my mom, what did you mean by that? Is it related to this?"
Xiao Xiao nodded, raising her chin as if announcing an important proclamation. "Because, very soon, you and I are getting engaged. So, they want us to live together and nurture our relationship."
Yin Shaojie was stunned, struggling to believe his ears. "What did you say? You and I? Engaged? What the hell is going on?"
"Well, that’s the situation. If you want to know more, you can ask your mom. I can’t be bothered to explain. I’m really tired now. I’m going to shower and then sleep. Bye!"
With that, she yawned, waved her hand at him, and dragged her luggage toward the room.
