Xiaoxiao, being someone who was particularly sensitive to voices, couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement, especially with this young man standing before her, so strikingly handsome that it was difficult to maintain composure.
Ahem, as a woman, it’s only natural to occasionally indulge in a little infatuation. It’s only human.
"Um... this strawberry cake is the last piece, and I really want it. Would you mind letting me have it? Please, please?" Xiaoxiao pouted adorably, batting her large, gleaming eyes at him with a playful air.
If Yin Shaojie were here to witness this, he would certainly roll his eyes in exasperation at the sight.
Lu Yichen, however, remained unmoved. With an apologetic tone, he replied, "Sorry, this one is for someone else. I can’t give it to you."
Xiaoxiao’s face immediately drooped, her mood deflating like a punctured balloon. She was certain that the cake was intended for his girlfriend. He was so considerate toward her, even buying breakfast—such a rare kind of guy.
Despite the refusal, his kindness added a few points in her heart.
"Alright... I won’t insist. I’ll buy something else."
Her mood dimmed further upon realizing the handsome guy already had a girlfriend. With a sigh, she slowly made her way to the glass counter.
Lu Yichen’s gaze followed her, a hint of guilt flickering in his eyes. He couldn’t help but suggest, “I’ve heard that their chestnut cake is also quite good. You might want to try that.”
Upon hearing this, Xiaoxiao’s impression of him softened even more. He was so gentle and considerate.
"Okay, I’ll give it a try!" She beamed, her smile as bright and warm as a sunflower, and flashed him a subtle grin.
She then ordered a chestnut cake, packed it up, and swiftly caught up with him.
Even though he had a girlfriend, she had just transferred to this school, and getting to know an academically gifted student was not a bad idea. So, gathering her courage, she decided to strike up a conversation.
"Hello!" Xiaoxiao greeted him cheerfully, her smile as radiant as ever. "Are you a student at Shangde? I just transferred here today."
Lu Yichen glanced at her. With such an innocent and sincere smile, anyone would find it hard to refuse her.
"Yes," he answered softly.
Xiaoxiao fell into step beside him. They walked in sync as she asked, "Which grade are you in?"
"Senior three."
Xiaoxiao pouted in regret, "I should be in senior two... but I’m definitely not in senior three."
"Should be?" Lu Yichen raised an eyebrow, confused. "You don’t even know what grade you’re in?"
Xiaoxiao sheepishly scratched her head. "Actually, I transferred back from the United States. I was in freshman year there, but I think I’m pretty smart, so I’m guessing Mrs. Yin will put me in senior two."
She knew that Yin Shaojie was in senior two, and in order to foster their relationship, Mrs. Yin would likely arrange for her to be in the same class as him. Although she had been in freshman year in the U.S., she felt confident she could manage the domestic curriculum.
Lu Yichen observed her confidence and couldn’t help but smile. "That’s not so certain. The education system is different between the two countries. Don’t underestimate the level of domestic schooling."
As they chatted, they reached the school gate, ready to enter together, but Xiaoxiao was stopped by a guard.
"You can’t enter. The bell is about to ring, and outsiders aren’t allowed on campus."
Xiaoxiao widened her eyes and explained, "But I’m a student here! I just transferred today!"
No matter how she explained, the guard wouldn’t budge. In fact, the more he looked at her, the more suspicious she seemed to him, which left her utterly frustrated.
