Yin Shaojie let out a cold, mocking laugh and said, “Don’t you have a handsome guy by your side? Let him take you home, and it’ll be the perfect opportunity for him to shower you with affection.”
Xiaoxiao pouted, her lips curling in annoyance, “I don’t care where you are, come back now and pick me up!”
She was certain that that jerk, Yin Shaojie, had gone to take his girlfriend home and was ignoring her. The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. She spoke again into the phone, “Yin Shaojie, didn’t you say we’d go to the Yin family’s house together tonight? How could you just abandon me? Watch out, or I’ll tell Aunt Yin you ditched me for your girlfriend!”
“Heh, are you three years old? Still threatening to tell on me?” he replied mockingly.
Xiaoxiao’s heart sank, and she crouched down, her expression darkening. “Yin Shaojie, hurry up…”
No sooner had she finished speaking than a sports car pulled up in front of her.
Hmm?
Wasn’t this the same sports car Yin Shaojie had driven to drop her off at school this morning?
Could it be…?
Xiaoxiao looked up and saw Yin Shaojie standing in front of her. He reached down to pull her up, suppressing a smile as he said, “Xiaoxiao, you’re so childish! You’re still sitting here like this? If someone didn’t know any better, they’d think you were a primary school student from next door.”
“Yin, Shao, Jie!” Xiaoxiao, fuming, raised her hand to slap him, but her face quickly broke into a smile.
So, he had been deliberately tricking her, pretending to be far away when he had actually been watching her all along, waiting to see her make a fool of herself.
She glared at him and asked, “You’ve been secretly watching me this whole time, haven’t you?”
“So what if I have?” Yin Shaojie pinched her nose and said, his tone laced with a hint of displeasure, “I thought you’d been kidnapped on your first day at school, but luckily, you’re not that stupid.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Xiaoxiao pouted, suddenly realizing, “So you saw it all, huh? You thought I would get into Yu Zhe’s car? Not a chance!”
Not to mention that she had only known Yu Zhe for a day, even if she were hiding her identity, she certainly didn’t want anyone to know that she was living with Yin Shaojie.
“Alright, let’s get in the car.” Yin Shaojie grabbed her arm and pulled her toward the car, shoving her inside. He put on his sunglasses once more before walking to the driver’s seat.
Xiaoxiao glanced at him and laughed. “What’s with the posing? Trying to look cool with those sunglasses? Give them to me!”
She reached out to snatch them away.
“Hey!” Yin Shaojie shouted as he started the engine, only to have her grab the sunglasses from him in one swift motion. He could only roll his eyes in resignation.
Xiaoxiao adjusted the frame of the glasses, “They’re too big; my face is too small.”
The sunglasses kept slipping down her nose, never staying in place.
“Now this is what’s funny, alright? You look ridiculous—like a child wearing adult clothes. The sunglasses don’t suit you at all. Just sit still, and give them back to me.” Yin Shaojie, with his long arms, quickly snatched them back when she wasn’t paying attention.
With one smooth motion, he put them on himself, striking a pose that was, quite frankly, undeniably stylish.
Xiaoxiao was nearly entranced.
“What’s wrong?” Yin Shaojie noticed her reaction and glanced over at her, asking.
Xiaoxiao quickly snapped out of it, hastily diverting her gaze. “It’s nothing. How long will it take to get to the Yin family’s house from here? Is it far?”
Sensing her change of subject but not fully understanding, Yin Shaojie, used to the oddities of girls, just answered, “Not far, just a little over half an hour.”
