1917 (2019) - Review

On this occasion I am going to talk about “1917” a movie that I just saw, the movie that won everyone's attention for having won many other Golden Globes movies as the best dramatic movie, a movie that has been in the everyone's mouth and that nobody has stopped saying that it is an instant war classic and this is where I ask them, is that true?

To begin with, let's talk about the good stuff, when it comes to film in velico we have a lot of movies and most of them always end up certain nominees for this type of award, but it's not a matter of bringing us a war movie and that's it, take it all the prizes you want, but it has to be a movie that has something to offer, that tells us a story within the war that you want but that has something new to offer or at least give us a good drama, movies like Soldier Ryan shines for basically everything, it's a war classic but movies like Dunkirk come out a lot more because they are war movies that try to do things very differently.

In the case of 1917, he tries to give us a very simple story that is too simple and that all aspects of production, special effects, music, makeup, performances make it stand out, We start there from the direction of Sam Mendes himself, who will all know him by directing the 007 film is from Skyfall, but in general it has been a director who has specialized more than anything in directing very good dramas, which in 1917, a little less than enough, is an excellent war drama, all the situations that they happen in the movie, they are super dramatic, they are super emotional and they really reach the viewer in a super strong way and because in this type movie, I can say that this could be one of their best movies.

As for the production, the film is excellent, that is, there are moments especially in the shots that do not notice the lack of budget, but in general all the things they show are impressive, both the places of destruction, and the camps of the soldiers or like when there is a war scene, making this whole resource that the whole movie is just a continuous shot, does not affect the movie at all and since we are talking about this because it is what is in everyone's mouth the movie is a continuous shot, almost in its entirety, I at least do not give yourself the cuts but to make a film that is a continuous shot for almost two hours that is something to be admired, really the guys if they knew how to do this well, I have my dogs With this kind of one-shot tricks throughout the movie, but in general they are mostly too good at doing.

At the time of filming it, I imagine that all the failures, all the production problems, had to have been enormous and the result really is one that has to be seen in the cinema, let's add this also that the film has some how many hints of a sense of humor that I thought were going to get in the way but in general it works and fortunately it is not in his mood that turns off the dramatic moments but helps us to free attention. since the film does an excellent job that we are always on the edge of the seat. Since everything is very limited we cannot see many things. the same thing that these characters see, we end up seeing us and suddenly a little bit of humor appears a little black, because if they help to relieve attention and also because the performances are excellent and help us to believe this, that everything This is 100% real.

Actors like Colin Ferrer, Armstrong or even Benedict Cumberbatch who act a little less than a Cameo, but our main actor has not seen him anywhere and from now on I plan to follow him more, he makes a performance more or less similar to what he did Leonardo Dicaprio in the reborn, where if he has moments where he can talk but there are moments where all his worry, all his anguish his sadness, is seen only by his face, when he starts to gasp when he starts to cry, when he starts to scream or anything else is totally credible the guy is excellent.

In general, the camera simply follows the characters we cannot see much further, there were many moments where the characters were under attack and I wanted to see more of the event, but I could not do it because the camera was always focusing on the pure protagonist, I say it is mostly spectacular, but after a while if you limit yourself a lot to the visual when there is a war scene even when two characters talk to each other, but well summarizing 1917 I don't think it's an instant warlike classic normally but inevitably it is one of the best war movies I've seen.
