Steemit: The Land of Spammy Bots

in abuse •  7 years ago

One of the things that have been more and more common on steemit lately is bots controlled by users that constantly spam peoples posts.

Now as if we don't have enough new people already that are spamming peoples posts asking for upvotes and follows, we now have bots that do exactly the same except in a larger scale.

On steemit, we have recently reached over 300,000 users (which is not a good thing), and most of them are bots. Some bots are good and don't spam like the @cheetah bot or bots like that. And the majority of these bots constantly spam peoples posts asking for upvotes and follows etc.

The amount of spam on here is unbelievable... and is pretty annoying. just saying....

And I think if we want steemit to excel as a platform, we need to get rid of these bots...Not only are the bots taking away from the rewards pool, but they are annoying people with their spammy comments. We need more legit users on this platform, meaning less of the spammy bots and people who are posting genuine content.

As of now, steemit is flooded. Steemit is at that point to which if you follow even 50 people you like, you can't even catch up with their posts unless you specifically go to their post. There is a rapid amount of spam posting on steemit and a rapid amount of people joining at the same time. Which in my eyes, is not good at all.

lol

yeah, a good post suitable to yours.

to me to me to me
balls to me
upvote to me

...

But seriously...

The "auto comment" bots are an enormous problem. I have suggested that using a captcha to make a comment would not be a bad idea, but that would also get rid of the beneficial bots.

I'm of mixed opinion on upvote bots. Without vote trails, I would be getting less income from my posts, but with vote trails I feel like my posts aren't getting read by anyone ...

It's a mixed bag.

true

How do you know if a comment comes from a bot? and is there a way to ban a bot?

There are ways to tell like if they are saying the same message over and over and if they dont post...also you cant ban them you can only flag them until their rep is at 0

You can flag them and also block them, not to see them again...

@khaaaarl yeah, i forgot about muting. and how many a's do you need in your name? lol

good to know. thanks

Just upvoted and resteemed ! Great post the bots & spam need to go or this site will become useless. It might be the reason the value went down recently.

thanks

i think @timeshiftarts comment is quite good, i do believe there is a space on the STEEM chain to make it a vibrant place with lots of different uses even with bots, cause they can automate and make it easier to make services, on the platform for instance entertainment (poker @spl, #steemgigs)

but somehow it needs to be controlled so that i doesnt go to much outside of adding value/use to the platform.

but what i always end up with when doing this discussion with myself, is that we have one option to moderate the steemit platform, and that is by flagging. the clearly abusive bots i will personally start to flag when i get enough SP. and i would suggest everyone to use the power they have to make this a brilliant plattform.
