Science is being taken over by a combination of predatory CorpoRat interests and politically savvy incompetents, a trend that goes back over 50 years. Peer reviewed journals, the lingua franca of scientific debate, are degenerating under corruption, pressure for funding and speed, and also under political pressures coming from both governments and academia.
A metastudy using a webcrawler indicated that over half of papers in the soft sciences had obvious errors in statistical calculations; and medicine has always had frauds (like the original "snake oil" salesman, who actually marketed counterfeit snake oil). Now the trend has extended to physical science and even mathematics!
This is so extreme that editors in chief and even entire staffs increasingly resign because of poor practices in science publishing.
