Nangroe Aceh Darussalam, the province with the title of the Veranda of Mecca indeed has a number of beautiful mosque mosques, historical conditions and some even dubbed as a magic mosque because it survived the brunt of the devastating tsunami disaster at the end of 2004 ago. Some of them have been reviewed in previous post posts including Baiturrahman BandaAceh Great Mosque, Baiturrahim Ulee Lheue Mosque, and Rahmatullah Lampu'uk Mosque in Lhoknga. But of the many mosques that remain firmly established, Lampriet Great Mosque is one of the mosques that severely damaged by the earthquake and tsunami December 26, 2004 it.
Lampriet Great Mosque was originally built gradually little by little local Muslim community since 1979 with the name Baitul Makmur Mosque with the status as the Great Mosque for the city of Banda Aceh. When the earthquake followed by tsunami waves hit Aceh, Nias and other Indian Ocean regions, causing severe damage to the building of this mosque. The Government of the Sultanate of Oman, which then provides relief funds to rebuild the mosque as a grand mosque and magnificent Middle Eastern architecture as we know it today.
The construction process began in 2006 and was inaugurated in 2008. It was prompted to name this great mosque with the name of Grand Mosque of Al-Makmur Sultan Kabus, taken from the name of Sultan Qaboos, Sultan Oman. But it is Oman Sultan who then said that he sincerely lillahita'ala sincerely help the Muslims of Aceh and do not need to relate the aid with his name. Just a note, the name of Sultan Qaboos has been aborted as the name of the Oman National Mosque with the name of the Great Mosque of Sultan Qaboos Muscat.
