Sanger Acehnese Local Coffee Brew [Bilingual]

Mungkin kamu sudah terbiasa dengan beberapa jenis olahan kopi. Sebut saja espresso, americano, coffee late, ataupun cappuccino.

Tapi kalau kamu belum pernah ke Aceh, atau belum pernah mampir ke warung kopi Aceh, besar kemungkinan kamu tidak akrab dengan nama Sanger.

Sanger adalah satu dari tiga olahan kopi lokal di Aceh. Kupi Pancong, Kopi Weng, & Sanger.

Kupi Pancong, secara harafiah bisa diterjemahkan sesuai namanya. Kupi adalah Kopi dalam bahasa Aceh. Kupi Pancong adalah kopi hitam biasa yang dipancung. Setengah porsi.

Oh ya, sekadar untuk diingat. Karena sedang membicarakan Aceh. Secara umum kopi berarti olahan Robusta dengan beberapa sendok gula putih.

Kopi Weng adalah campuran dari telur yang dikocok dengan gula, lalu dituangi kopi panas. Rasanya manis, berkrim dan ... telur.
Kopi Weng lebih populer di wilayah tengah dan Dataran Tinggi Gayo.

Berbeda dengan Kopi Weng, Sanger lebih populer di wilayah pesisir. Ada berbagai versi mengenai asal-usul Sanger. Salah satu yang cukup dikenal adalah Sanger berasal dari Banda Aceh.

Beberapa mahasiswa yang secara ekonomi kurang mapan, ingin mencoba Kopi Susu, tapi terlalu mahal untuk diminum rutin. Lalu muncul ide membuat versi hematnya. Setengah porsi kopi, dengan sedikit gula dan sedikit susu. Nama sanger sendiri berarti Sama-sama Ngerti

Mungkin karena murahnya, mungkin juga karena rasanya yang jauh lebih ringan dibanding Kopi Susu. Apapun sebabnya, yang jelas Sanger kemudian menjadi terkenal dan menjadi salah satu ikon olahan kopi lokal.

But maybe, just maybe. If you never came to Aceh. Or never stop by to some Acehnese coffee shop. You probably never hear about Sanger.
Sanger is one of three local coffee brew in Aceh. Kupi Pancong, Kopi Weng, and Sanger.

Kupi -- that's how we say coffee in Aceh -- Pancong, basically is just a half portion of regular black coffee. Because we talk about Aceh, usually that's mean one cup of robusta based coffee with sugar. Pancong is close enough to decapitate. Cut a half.
So literally Kupi Pancong mean a half size of regular black coffee.

Kopi Weng is a mix of well shake egg and sugar with hot black coffee. It's sweet, creamy, and eggy.

Sanger is commonly find in coastal areas. There's some versions about its origins. But the most popular story says that Sanger came from Banda Aceh. The capital of Aceh province.

The idea of Sanger came up from a condition when some unwhealthy colleger ask for cheap Kopi Susu (coffee with condensed milk). So the brewer made a small portion of coffee with a little bit of sugar and a little bit of milk.

Some says, the name of Sanger it self mean Sama-sama ngerti. I don't know how to translate it correctly in English. But the idea is a brew that can give an opportunity to taste some look alike Kopi Susu, but cheaper.

They never thought that menu will become famous. Maybe because it taste more lighter than Kopi Susu. Maybe because the price. Nobody know why, but it became one of the most famous Acehnese coffee local brew.

In last two years, some coffee shop made another variations of sanger. Instead using Robusta , they made sanger with Arabica. In my personal opinion, that's not Sanger. Its has to be Robusta. But that's my opinion.
