Teuku Umar (Meulaboh, 1854 - Meulaboh February 11, 1899) is an Indonesian independence hero who struggles by pretending to be with the Dutch. He fought against the Dutch who collected enough weapons and money.

He was one of the national heroes who had led the guerrilla war in Aceh from 1873 to 1899. Teuku Umar's grandfather was a descendant of Minangkabau, the Datuk Makdum Sati who once rendered the Sultan of Aceh. Datuk Makdum Sati has two sons, namely Nantan Setia and Achmad Mahmud. Teuku Achmad Mahmud is the father of Teuku Umar.

Teuku Umar never gained formal education. Nonetheless, he is capable of being a strong, intelligent, and brave leader.

Teuku Umar's wedding was never done. When he was not 20 years old, Teuku Umar married Nyak Sofiah, Uleebalang Glumpang's son. To improve his degree, Teuku Umar then married again with Nyak Malighai, daughter of Panglima Sagi XXV Mukim. From that time on, he started using the Teuku title. In 1880, Teuku Umar married the widow of Cut Nyak Dien, the daughter of her uncle. Own Cut Nyak Dien already has a husband (Teuku Ibrahim Lamnga) but has died in June 1978 in a war against the Dutch in Gle Tarun. After that, Cut Nyak Dien meets and falls in love with Teuku Umar.
