A walk through one of the Cemeteries

Today I was determined to get a few more steps in than yesterday at get over the 6 to 7 k steps The Dr suggested I do each day and I achieved that so I am happy with the count and I didn't desert my Wife at home alone for too long, after all, weekends is the time we get to spend together :)
I went for a couple of short walks to get my steps in One downtown this afternoon and a walk to and through one of the other Cemeteries here in Milford

I must say both the cemeteries here are quite well maintained and have some nice headstones

and I should also say this is for the tag created by @melinda010100 Cemetery Photos

As I walked around I looked at the names on the graves and wondewred what their history was of course in most cases I never know of course but I kind of always do that

As I walk around a Cemetery I always think of family and friends who have departed us, but it also makes me think about where or whether I want to to be buried, ( of course I am hoping I am thinking and hoping a long way in the future from now ), and honestly I do not want to be buried,.
When my time comes I want to be cremated and my ashes dropped into a river or the ocean, then if people want to remember me they can always go tot he water anywhere and feel they are with me.

With the iphone having live capture it was cool I could select from the live images and use the one here with the birds flying over the gravestones

It was nice to see all the flags flying over memorial plots in the cemetry, I am guessing they were placed there around memorial day, I took a moment to thank those who gave there lifes in service.

And I finish off with more flags and headstones and the main flag flying in the cemetry

A great and sensitive post JJ.
Over here our cemeteries are being ravaged by metal thieves and they will break a headstone just to get a copper plaque off.
I have placed headstones on each of may family's graves, with no metal contents. Ashes to ashes will also be my lot and I figure they can make a pendant of my ashes for Marian to wear as a necklace.
My walking have become troubled due to all of the stupid pills that I have to take, as my calves become very painful.
Blessings!

That is so sad to hear that people ransack the headstones, that is terrible, MI do have a little of my Mothers and fathers ashes in a pendant think but I do not wear them ever but have them in a special little place in our house
about your calves I can relate as I had the same and discovered through visiting a Vascular Dr that I had blockages and now have stents in both legs, have you had that checked, I have a follow up in a few weeks and hope there still good still

You did great today to get in your extra steps without abondoning your wife, lol. You need to take her walking with you! @crypt-skip and I have some our best talks while out walking. You have a lot of beautiful pictures, we've come to expect that from you, so don't let us down, lol. And I agree with you about cremation, that's what @crypt-skip and I both want.

My Wife isnt as big into walking at the moment and has a bit of a problem with one of her feet, when thats better she plans to get out on some walks with me so I look forward to us walking together around here again soon

Dont worry even though with the weather this week I wasn't as active with taking photos I will be out shooting most days and have more to come even if some may be more creative lOL
Cremation is something my wife and I have also discussed and have decided to go for

Beautiful shots. Is it weird that I don't care if I am cremeated or buried. I guess probably cremated.

No thats not weird at all that you dont care either way after we are gone does it really matter maybe it's me that is weird thinking about it ;)

Nah ... I think it quite a common thing to think about.

Great pictures, like always @tattoodjay
That is quite a different walk today.

I think that I would also like to be cremated and thrown somewhere in the ocean or just anywhere in nature, but I don't really think of that. I guess death really scares me.

Thanks and I do like to try and mix it up with my posts and photos, and death is, of course, scary to all of us, thats perfectly normal, I guess I think about it having lost a few family and friends, but its not something I think about much at all I do admit

I'm one of those weirdos that love reverent walks through cemeteries. It does provoke thought. I am with you on the cremation. I'm only 31 but working primarily in healthcare i know the grim reaper can come at anytime. I need to make some legal documentation declaring my wishes because I do NOT want to be in the ground. My family can divy up the ashes and dash them in some special place or whatever. No coffin for me!
Sorry, i totally went morbid there. But relates to your post. :)

Not morbid at all its a fact of life, well a fact that our life is only of a limited duration, Our family all know my wifes and I choices, if they want to kee a little of my ashes that's fine but the rest can be spread somewhere special to them as long as it is by the water, I do have a little bit of my fathers ashes that my Sister saved for me, and I have it in a special place in the house.

I to find walking through cemeteries so interesting and thought-provoking, and even though I do not have any friends of family buried here I do have thoughts of them while there

31 you young lady you, I am not to far from 60

wow beautiful photographs @tattoodjay
8k is good number my friend.

Thanks I was happy with the day and steps

Neat and tidy quiet place to walk thinking of souls departed always seems to jolt us back to reality, our time will come soon enough.

Quickest way to ashes once again is my choice, what people do with it when I am gone really does not worry me, I won't be around to witness it, case of star dust here I come, sometime in the future!

Yes indeed it is something not to dwell on, My family know what me and my wife would prefer but honestly, they can do what they want when that time comes. But it is something that comes to mind when walking around a cemetery thinking of family an friends who have already passed on

Fortunately my direct family have not requested cemetery burial, both my parents said plant a rose bush, tend to it and remember me.

My oldest brother and his daughter laid to rest at sea which my brother dearly wished for.

One has to make their wishes known, best to have it arranged when preparing a Will.

I like the options your family took, thats what I would do I must check our wills I think we have that stated but it would be good for me to check

Nice feelings and Cemeteries photography.

Thanks Kindly my Friend :)

Graveyards are always cool places.

Or at least they are for me... Looks like around there you have a different approach to this places... Here on Mexico they tend to be more small and everything look more crammed...

Greetings and keep the good work.

I have seen smaller cramped cemetery here as well in the States but many are like the ones here nice and roomy

That is a great cemetery. I appreciate those big wide rows between the markers after seeing so many cemeteries around the world with no green space.

I find both the cemeteries here nicely laid out and a beautiful resting place for those there and for the families to visit

Like you, I want my ashes to be scattered in the places I love best, but I still want a memorial stone in the cemetery where many of my ancestors and friends and neighbors are buried.

I can understand that, I will leave it up to the kids about a memorial stone, if they want one I am fine with that but for me it is not necessary

There's a new study out. (Please, act surprised) This one says that the 10k per day isn't really the sweet spot for number of steps. The rewards from daily walking seem to start around 4k steps and peak at about 7500. Which I make just pretty nearly every day.

Depending on the temperature, some days I just love getting to 10k. But it's nice to know that I'm getting full benefit now when the weather is hot.

Thanks for taking us along.

Accckkk. Double dip! I also wish to be cremated and don't much care where my ashes start their journey to the ocean...

If somebody is really so inclined they could take them to Prospector Pool on the St. Joe River in Idaho. That'd be the perfect place for me, I think. But it's a class 4 water, I wouldn't want to pollute it, at all :)

Picture me with a totally surprised look on my face :)
I used to be a huge walker, when I was on my own it was not unusual for me to go for long walks, often 10 or twenty miles, when my Knees started acting up in my late 30s and I could run I just switched to walking.

The doctor sort of said the same about the study, he recommends most patients to do between 5 and 7 K, but with my history with blockages he recommends a little more for me, but i don't mind, getting out for walks with my camera is my way of relaxing :)
