Mango is one of the most important tropical fruit crops in the world and is ranked fifth in production among major fruit crops. Mangoes are produced in over 90 countries worldwide. FAO estimates that the mango harvest will be around 28 million tons in 2014, that is, 35% of the production of the world's tropical fruit. Asia accounts for approximately 77% of global mango production, and the Americas and Africa account for approximately 13% and 9%, respectively. Mango has a long history of cultivation, and its cultivation has recently expanded to countries in temperate zones by use of protected cultivation. Most of the major mango-producing countries like India, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Bangladesh are located in Asia; however, the cultivation has spread to countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Madagascar, Tanzania, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Brazil, and Australia.
