During the day they eat float spawn and pests of wetland. The birds spend their night in the hayjal, karach and bayon bushes beside the swamps. 'Their lips are red and white in color, purpura is a lot. Locals know them as 'beautiful bird'. Hingkuli Haor's Barlekha upazila, Hingjoyar, Jalpa, Hawabaniya and Juri Upazila Chatala, Pangala and Kulaura Bhattar's Foot Bill Kalim Bird's Residential Site. In 2007, only four Kalam birds were found in different areas of Haor in the census of Jalar birds. On February 12, 2009, about 85 thousand birds were found in the Hawkuli haor under one day underwater bird census under the leadership of prominent bird expert Inam Al Huq.
