I have never ever used Active Directory and to be honest, I haven't even heard about it. But, today I have been listening to quite a lot of lectures about it and I have even spent a few miuntes testing the system myself. I didn't even know that such a thing exist, but after hearing about it, I clearly see why LDAP and Active Directory and similar services are extremely useful to system administrators.
How come?
Instead of managing user accounts and permissions on every single computer, you have an interface which can be used to manage user accounts, groups, permissions, and even more detailed settings, which again makes life so much easier for an administrator. You do not have to run around to create new users and make updates on systems, but you have an interface that can be used to manage such things. When a new user has to be made, you just do it in the directory, and the next time the computer starts the machine, he or she can log on with the credentials that you just made.
I am still in the very early process of understanding this and I really want to learn more about it, so I do look forward to studying more about it and using it in real life in the coming days and weeks.
