On Advertising - Part 7 - final

crta.png

This is the final part of the series on advertisement and thought control perpetuated through its many vehicles. It is time to make a conclusion on the matter and probably try to define a few suggestions. Whatever be the truth, whatever we might feel about it, the bottom line is that it is probably way too late to change things on the global scale. Or a way too early, depending on how you like to perceive it.

Hopefully, one day in the future, history students will look back at us and wonder why did we fool and manipulate each other so much. From their perspective, it will be silly to look at how we were manipulated and did nothing about it for so long. Then the professor will arduously explain a few points as to why was it so.

He will mention human emotions that drove the people of the period, conformity issues, greed that ruled the planet and made this system based on greed move forward. He'll probably mention a few other points which we cannot see right now. The problem might be much deeper than it seems and not even the most awaken among us can fully grasp the proportions of this disease advertisement poisoning.

What would be interesting for me to know is how will a change from this to that occur and how long will it take? I'd also like to know what will move that change forward, make people realize that commercial brainwashing moulding us into obedient consumers is not the best way to go about things.

As nothing lasts forever, and change is the only eternal fact, what will be the guiding light, the incentive that will lure people to accept different values as most important ones? Will it be an overall awakening to some hidden frequency of the universal mind? Will it be an alien invasion? A new catastrophic event? A thousand nukes world war? Will it be the second coming, perhaps?

There is a pattern in all those predictions. The future. Everyone seems to be waiting for something bigger than us. Is it because we've lost faith in a peaceful change? Instead of searching possibilities for to pull the humanity out of the claws of what is and look forward to a better what might be, we are making films about our fantasies, predicting and waiting, and waiting, and waiting...

The only way a change came in the past was from an individual's efforts that set up the path for changes. It was not forcing anyone to do anything, it was not making people follow whatever a group believes the truth might be. Simply because there are as many truths as there are people. Everyone wants to believe his own and nobody wants to be told he's wrong.

So, we might generally say that the path leads to individual actions and will not happen by predicting and waiting for a fantasy to happen. All actions that changed the world always followed a simple formula. It says: If you want an advertisement free world - start from yourself! :-)

Thank you for following "On Advertising" series of articles. This was the final part. We hope you enjoyed yourself and learned a thing or two. If not, then we hope they at least remind you of something you already knew deep down and can use it as food for thought.

I also hope that the advertising industry will cease to base its goals on manipulation. I hope that in the future this will be a part of the story that will be remembered in order to avoid repeating it more. I think that this problem has stalled in a perfect system. It is difficult to imagine the world without it, a world without advertising calling for consumption. People are used to this and they like it. In most cases, people simply do not pay attention to advertising and think that they are independent of advertising. But this is not so, it is the indifference of people that leads to the fact that this happens. Simply put, indifferent people show - "tacit consent." Only through efforts and actions can the situation be changed. If you expect everything to change by itself - then nothing will happen.
I liked the material, he "opens his eyes" to socially important topics. Thank you!

Thanks for these valuables series..I think that to counteract brainwashing, you should be:

A strong personal belief system
Fearless self assurance
Self knowledge
Taking an active role in caring for yourself
Asking questions
Seek evidence
Be honest
Teach, don’t preach
Remember there is a difference between teaching and brainwashing. Brainwashing always involves an element of coercion. Teaching is compassionate guidance towards the truth. I think that the best way to protect someone you love from the effects of brainwashing, would be to help them to practice and develop the things listed here.

always timely @adsactly with your posts, advertising has a very ancient history, in Pompeii archaeologists have found advertising slogans with suggestions for citizens to vote for certain political figures dating back to 79 a.d. So this suggests that passing from the invention of printing, to the creation of advertising art posters (for the illiterates) by artists prior to the belle epoque and coming to our days with internet and digital, we can imagine that the next step will be that to see it projected in the sky or on some mountains like a large installation by Christo.
Paradoxically it will be more and more incisive and invasive at the subliminal and cerebral level, manipulating the actions of consumers.
We can only defend ourselves with culture by developing cognitive abilities alternatively I think, as a teacher, that one of the next steps in the national schooling plans is a discipline that will educate young people to a correct vision and awareness of the messages and subliminal images that unfortunately will have the prevalence in advertising communication.
Thank you for giving us this opportunity for further study. Ad Majora!

I'll pay a pretty penny to be in that future history lesson :-)

You are right when you say that there are points and subtitles to this debate that we have yet to become aware of. Or perhaps we are aware but not enough to vocalize them.

Whatever the case might be human behavior is far to complicated and for every individual there is a realm of his own truth. To be able see beyond it perhaps what makes great men great and yet we cannot ask people to look beyond it. If they it do it willingly then it there own choice and they are sure to follow a 'road less taken'.

What is even more assured is that they'll be able to see far more different view of this world than us....... for better or for worse.

In all stages of history, there has always been a subliminal message, where the author who transmits the message can persuade the public to comply with the actions that they want to respond to.

Whoever transmits the message knows what it wants, therefore it will use the appropriate strategies in order to achieve the desired objective.

Now with the technological advances the message transits faster and the results are more effective.

Of course, it is not possible to persuade 100% of individuals, there are those who have a personality with their own criteria, with analytical skills where they can not be manipulated. On the contrary, it can generate the creation of a new message that adversely affects the counterpart and manages to win the opponent.

Hopefully, one day in the future, history students will look back at us and wonder why did we fool and manipulate each other so much.

I hope so as well! I hope it will be even sooner than we think. I hope when that time comes we still be here to witnesss it.

Will it be an overall awakening to some hidden frequency of the universal mind? Will it be an alien invasion? A new catastrophic event? A thousand nukes world war? Will it be the second coming,...

Each and one of these points are possible. Mostly probably is some kind of catastrophic even in my opinion. Anyway, at the end I would like to thank you for all these great series. With everything you mentioned I couldn’t agree more and on top of what I already knew or had a suspicion about, I also learned many new things.
