Smoking reduces the risk of severe Gingival Recession. I don`t know about rest, but this one is highly questionable to say at least.
Problem of gigngival recession is multicausal, and there are more contributing factors to it than smoking. But smoking is one of factors which empowers those factors, by reducing blood flow in gums and supporting formation of calculus and supragingival pigmentations.
As for academic papers on this subject there is a paper which says that there is no difference in gingival recession between smokers and non smokers, but it does not say that it reduces the risks... And there are a lot more which say that smoking will worsen your periodontal health and recessions...
Anyway two things are sure.
- Smoking will make your teeth yellow and brown.
- You will pay a lot to clean and whiten them, even if you know your dentist :)
That is for sure. The reality of many people who remain smoking, with the risk of yellow teeth. Thanks @plumubble
