Lust is one of the seven cardinal sins along with greed and pride. And this sin is so important that the Bible tells us that David committed adultery with Bathsabe for this carnal sin.
The Bible tells us that David was always a God-fearing person, and that he showed mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) even in very difficult situations when he spared Saul's life in a cave when he was chasing him. David's integrity in this sense was unquestionable, but the Bible also gives us a very clear spiritual message, men have weaknesses, and no matter how upright they are, they cannot be good to everyone.
The Bible tells us that David was walking on the roof of his palace and saw a very beautiful woman having a bath, her name was Bathsheba, and since he fell in love with her and got her pregnant, he decided to make her his wife, but there was a problem, she already she was a married woman.
Bathsheba was married to Uriah, a person of Hittite origin, who was an officer in the army of David. And it was so that David made sure, with very specific orders, that Uriah would die in battle, fighting against the Ammonites. Once this was achieved, he married Bathsheba. Having done all this, perhaps David thought that the Lord would not see him, the Bible tells us. But as the Book of Proverbs says: "For your ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all your paths" Proverbs 5:21.
And it was so that the Lord who sees everything, judged the sin of David, and through the words of the prophet Nathan, in this way was his sentence:
"Then David said to Nathan, ´I have sinned against the LORD.´
Nathan replied, ´The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for the LORD, the son born to you will die.´" 2 Samuel 12:13-14.
Despite this venial sin, the Lord did not break his relationship with David, but corrected him, because as the Bible says: "The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished" Numbers 14:18.
