Visiting Point Reyes national seashore in California

We drove to Point Reyes last Saturday to cure the Thanksgiving hangover. It was a nice over-an-hour drive from San Francisco. We tried the Highway 1 route and had to turn around, but bagged some really good coastal views. Also stopped on the way to get some artisan Mocha and banana cake in Marin county so life was very very good 😊

Getting into Inverness, we did the Chimney Rock Trail which was a nice easy hike. You’ll get some really refreshing ocean and bay views expanding beyond the rocky cliffs. Looking down over those cliffs you’ll find seals sunbathing on the beach below and picture-perfect shore-hugging waves. My favourite moment.

As the sun started to go down, we drove to the Point Reyes Lighthouse. This place was certainly very popular with tourists. We descended 300 steps to see the lighthouse by the cliff and I found that the view before reaching the lighthouse itself was the most spectacular.

Climbing back up the 300 steps made a good hike. I was feeling grateful for some exercise opportunity! 🙏

We went to the Panama Hotel in San Rafael for dinner. This is definitely a popular spot serving the locals so was a good find. I enjoyed my steak and the Cabernet Sauvignon. There gone all day calorie burning effort 😂

I would totally recommend this trip for a short day hike outside SF to relax and unwind.
