The difference between the Internet and the World Wide Web

Egg on the face

We have all had that right? Talk about something with conviction, only to find out you got it wrong, and that's what's referred to as having 'egg on your face'. I recently made a post that inferred to the Internet and the World Wide Web being the same thing, which of course consequently I found out later they are not, so then came the egg to my face, splat!

So, straight off I am not technically aware about networking, and my layer of knowledge beyond what I see on my computer screen is scarce. To an everyday person the Internet is the World Wide Web, as we band around questions to each other, "did you pay the Internet bill?" - "did you read that on the Internet" - "did you hear that on the Internet?", Internet, Internet, Internet. And at times, without being informed about these things, one can make a fool of one's-self, so hopefully this finds someone who isn't aware of the difference between the Internet and the WWW, plus super informative link below. I believe that this is especially important to know at this time, due to projects that are being worked on that will rival the World Wide Web.
