Advice junk food.

I see this pop up a lot, so I thought I’d post my thoughts.

My response to this though is to ask people to really consider whether it’s merely advice junk food.

Why junk? Alas, it actually isn’t good advice.

I understand what it’s getting at. But number one just is not statistically accurate. 3 is a matter of opinion but also can be bad advice. 4 is poorly phrased because the intended advice is the contrapositive.

And learning about other people is one of the most informative and engaging ways to learn about what you want and who you are and how to do it. The last few words of this document literally contradict the premise that it is advice from a self-made millionaire, third person. It is “talking about other people”. Indeed, it would be much more effective as such if it actually had personal anecdotes about that particular person.

And of course: Oddly specific. Implicit assumption this is advice for a single heterosexual man? That’s fine if presented as for that specific group, but in the absence of context, it just looks like sexism.
