"I lay down in bed, suddenly my body froze, and I saw a dark entity in the room" – Sleep Paralysis explained

in advice •  7 years ago

In the past hundred years, science has come up with attempts to explain what sleep paralysis is. You can read it all online. I, being true to my statement from my opening post, speak only about things that I have experienced first-hand, and I insist on that for the sake of true understanding of consciousness.

The situation is as described in the title. You go to bed, you lie down, preparing yourself to sleep, and suddenly, instead of the regular process you find yourself wide awake, your body is a bit stiff, and when you try to feel it, let alone move it, you are horrified to realize that you simply cannot. It seems that there is no connection between your mind and your body, that you lost control of the basic operations. The immediate thought that comes to mind is: "Am I dead?" And if that's not enough, you feel a strange presence in the room, you roll your (ether) eyes to scan the place and lo and behold, you see a dark spooky form approaching towards your feet, and in a few seconds will surely grab them and take you away, or so you think.

This situation would scare even the bravest of men.

But it should not. And in this article, I will shed light on the issue, hoping to relax your concerns and by that lower the shields that your mind currently puts on.

What happens when we fall asleep

As soon as you lie in bed, your mind, your ego personality, begins to back off. There is no longer a need to operate in the physical reality and the mind knows it. It slowly "shuts itself down" allowing other portions of your consciousness to take control, the parts that know to operate in other worlds where different sets of rules govern. The next moment your consciousness leaves the physical body and drifts to the dream world. A constant, stable connection is kept throughout the night between the wandering consciousness and the body's consciousness (not the mind) who is left here to monitor the status of the physical body. Upon the slightest danger the body calls upon the consciousness and within a split of a second, it returns to take control. This is the normal process called "falling asleep" that happens every night. Most always you are not aware of it. And by the way, this same process happens when we die. The only difference is that then the consciousness disconnects from the physical body for good. Therefore, it is true to say that every night, when we go to sleep, we die a small death. And this process is natural as your breathing.

Sleep paralysis explained

Under certain conditions, the mind may not back off completely and remains alert during the process of falling asleep. Since it is accustomed to the rules of the physical world, everything it witnesses from now on is deciphered by its set of preconceived assumptions. Few interesting phenomena can be felt when the mind remains to watch.

  • First thing is the paralysis. As explained, the mind is taking the second seat and therefore the body is not being controlled anymore. It no longer can operate the mechanism of the body. This does not mean you are dead. It only means that you are falling asleep.
  • The next phenomenon is the shaking. The mind will feel that the body is aggressively shaking, from left to right and a strong noise as if an engine is operating, is heard. This is the way the mind interprets the consciousness leaving the body, the detachment of your light body (which is the body that travels in the dream worlds) from the physical body as if it is an airplane that takes off. As soon as the light body leaves the physical, you will feel that you are moving up, ascending, floating in the room, above your sleeping body. From here you can begin your nocturnal travels.

This is a process that happens every night, each time when you go to sleep.

There is nothing to fear, nothing to be concerned about, you are not dying, it's not a sickness or any of the kind. You are simply being aware. Congratulations!

Dark entity explained

The other worlds, the near earth realms, where our dreaming consciousness travels to when it leaves the body, are flooded with entities. Look around you now, the place you are at is packed with entities. You simply do not sense them. But they are here, harmless, watching, minding their own business. When we fall asleep and enter the dream world we encounter those entities. As soon as the process of falling asleep happens, the mind, if stays alert, senses the presence of those entities in the room. Since it is unfamiliar to them, the mind (ego) is startled. Imagine you would see, right now, standing next to you, a stranger. Would you not be afraid? What does the stranger want? Is he a treat? The ego interprets that entity in the same way and puts itself into a state of alertness, which results in coloring that entity in dark shades. If that entity makes a move, as innocent as it may be, the mind sees it as a treat to our safety and entices the only mechanism it knows to guarantee our survival – the fear.

However, there is nothing to be afraid of. This is a natural process. It happens every night and for most of you under the radar.

At some point, if not already, you will be more confident about your identity, comfort in your own skin, and then you will want to allow the dreams journies to be conscious. When that time comes you will be readier, knowing that there is absolutely nothing to fear.

I wish you safe and enjoyable travels.

I have experienced when I was sleeping soundly as if I was overwhelmed by something that made me unable to move at all, I fought so hard that I was released and awake. I was sweating my sweat, fast heart beats and irregular breath, as if after running a few kilometers. In our deep, people believe that it is overlaid by a ghost named "Beunoem". And most people are afraid of it. How does the @noman-magus response to such conditions? please enlightenment @noman-magus.

This ghost is simply a face to the phenomenon that I described in the article. The ego is afraid from anything that is foreign to it, that it can not recognize. In the old times people didn't know about the parts of the personality so they needed to be relaxed by giving names and titles.
Your sensation was the effect of adrenaline rushing through your body. Again I say, nothing to fear. But keep yourself natural, don't force the alteration of your consciousness. Meaning, no drugs, no hallucinating substances.
Let your spirit guide you through the process of expansion of your consciousness.

The deep-seated belief in the understanding of the people around me, had an effect on my mindset, and it seemed as if the ghost was real. Thanks smart explorations @nomad-magus. Very reasonable. Apparently it does not need to be feared.

I have an experience about sleep paralysis ...It is :
I had any visual encounters however once it happened the primary time i used to be contact my left aspect and began to feel that pressure on my chest. after I accomplished i used to be unfit and began panicking, one thing voiceless in my ear “Just returning in to mention goodnight.” That is after I felt like one thing was pushing me towards the sting of my bed. terrific shit.

Terrific, true...
But loving. You recieved a call from your soul... How lucky you are! 👍

First of all i have never felt it ever in my life. But since it is natural process so there is no need to worry about. Moreover i wanted to confirm does the person wake up fresh or hes feeling as if he hasn't had a sleep?

Oh, excellent question. You wake up fresher than ever before, adrenaline runs in your body and you feel like you had the greatest experience of your life!

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Oh my god where has the experience of having such a sleep being. There have been times when i just don't feel as if woken fresh. This is either i couldn't sleep at all or just slept too late and had to wake up early. Further i wanted to ask does the experience feel scary or is it soothing while you are under sleep paralysis.

If you are not prepared it's very scary because your ego thinks you are dying!
The more you read, train your mind, and relax yourself, you will enjoy the experience.

Well first what i want is that it should because than only can i experience myself. Hehe its not starting still😂😂

You can teach yourself. There are books about OBEs.

I will try to catch one such kind of a book and will hopefully try to feel such an experience someday night rather. Anyways i just wanted to know doesn't the shaking wake you up. Or at least doesn't the mind become cautious because of this?? Does it not happen in any case.

As far as my experience is concerned when a person after experiencing it for a first time he'll have some hard minutes to woke up bcz his body will be temporarily paralyzed and when he's able to free himself for this phenomenon he'll feel a little dizzy for some minutes and after that everything will be normal as it was!!!

Gaed ha phasaiey

😂

What do you think of insomnia I did @nomad-magus? I get never a nicedream, even a nightmare just never I experienced.

It differs. We live in times where the mind is fully operational during the day and to the late hours of the night. We take our cell phones with us to bed, we watch TV in bed, we do not allow ourselves the proper conditions to sleep appropriately.
You may want to examine the circumstances of your life. If you take some kind of anti-depression medicine, that might also influence the quality of your sleep. Pay attention also to the physical surroundings - if it's too cold/hot in your bed room then the consciousness is not able to soar deep and far.
Hope this will help you.

Thank you for your help.I have been doing some, hope this could be helpful in restoration of insomnia I experienced to normal conditions. You are good in writing and good in giving solutions. You have inspired me in writing and life

Thank You

It happens to me and it is really frightening...it took me a while to calm after.

Was it an occuring experience?

It was only few times but the experience was strong because I felt like someone is pressing on me and prevent from me to move...WOW !

Interesting.
I never had this pressing sensation. I'd conceive that it's your ego's attempt to keep you put, feering that leaving the body might kill you. Which, as explained in the post, is not the case.
Cool sharing 👍

Thank you for posting !

Thank you so much for your post. It helps me a lot to get a better understanding of this situation!

When I first experienced this phenomenon I was like AM I DEAD,,WHATS WRONG WITH ME,,WHY CANT I MOVE etc n this was the scariest thing that I ever experienced in my life but with the passage of time I got used to it n also went through internet to see what this is all about n it was just normal n many people were caught up in this strange experience also I went through this yesterday evening n I was like WHOA LETS ENJOY SOME FUN 😂😂!! Today after reading your post I learned one or two things more about SP! Thanks for sharing n explaining it in an amazing way!!! Cheers n have a good day!!!!!

@nomad-magus
For us easterners, anything that looks to us while sleeping, it's not just a flower bed, but also there are messages delivered, there are signs that we should look forward to when awakened in the morning. we still believe so

Indeed.
Dreams are divided to several types. Here I will name the main three:

  • Symbolic, where one would want to understand the meaning of the objects and people that appear in one's dreams.
  • Journies - where the dreams environments that one meets in a dream are real. Example: Pandora, the world presented in the movie Avatar.
  • Lucid dreams - where the consciousness projects itself in a light body, and the mind collects recollections throughout the dream.

I had sleep paralysis quite often 5 years ago. Sometimes I was only able to move my head, other times my simply did not want open no matter how hard I tried. For me sleep paralysis was the onset of fear release in the dream state, and this was quite tough back then because it came along with more Awareness in the dream state. The borders between dream state and waking state have become more and more fluid. Mental Silence was key for me to keep on track with the pace I was dragged through my fears.:)

You really have the knack of great topic choice! Thank you for your positive explanation!

...sounds like a very healthy situation. Thanks for the feedback👍

Reading this content is like studying three semesters of psychology concerning sleep. There's nothing to be afraid of An affirmation I need to keep in mind. Thank you for the umpteenth time @nomad-magus for the science you give us. The more reading content @nomad-magus, my knowledge is also increasing. I wait for the next work.

Resteem friends all of them.

Best way to free yourself is not to struggle let it engulf you and when it realises that you don't struggle anymore, it will ultimately free you and you will be freed from its grip...

Indeed. Relaxing the body is needed as well.

i have never experienced this thing
it sounds scary !
my friend has told me multiple times about this
and i remember when recently i was sleeping next to him he suddenly makes strong noices as if he is fighting with someone ,believe me i felt more scared than him!

😁
If you live natural life and don't mess around with your mind, you are safe. Your ego consciousness is very wise and won't let you experience anything you are not ready for. You may want to try OBEs, my friend.
One day.

i want to try
but i would like to have intentionally!

There are guides about this.
You may want to google "out of body experiences".

thankyou !
i would definitely give it a shot!

what about the nightmare @nomad-magus,do you have explanation about that? is it really true that this could be deadly?is there any possible way of keeping out of it?

I have never heard of a deadly nightmare, but then again no one has ever returned to report. Generally speaking, you have innate strong mechanisms that keep you safe.
To keep nightmares away you can state out loud, before falling asleep "I will be safe in my dreams tonight".
Three times.
Do it for several nights and if it doesn't help, ask again.

ok @nomad-magus i will do it and thank you for your advice!

👍
I will publish a post about nightmares soon, stay tuned.

i will wait for that sir @nomad-magus!

When I was that young I often experience such ... I can fly, I can walk on the water, zombie attack, a dead young girl approached me, an old lady... those were just few of my encounters from the other dimension.... my physical body struggling, until my father or any of my siblings around shaked my body to wake up.... the dead is the scariest one...flying? I enjoyed it.

Indeed. As children we allow ourselves more freedom. When we grow up we adopt beliefs that limit our natural ability to travel. Add to that the mental blockages that we put in order to not remember and the results are less recollections.
You are still having these experiences. You simply choose to not remember them now.

Thanks for sharing @nomad-magus

Memang, logika yang Anda sebutkan adalah kesadaran ego.

@nomad-magus ..this whole scenario is based on the lines as you mentioned :
"Therefore, it is true to say that every night, when we go to sleep, we die a small death. And this process is natural as your breathing". When we prepare ourself for sleep, once we fall asleep we lost control on our body.
And when talking about sleep paralysis, it is simply a disturbed or broken coordination of mind and body, both dont work together. And yes you talk about dark entities?? Thats true from religious scriptures also.once we fall asleep,we are encountered by these entities and they are all the time around us but we cant see or feel them...thankyou for this beautiful post..
And yes we've already talked about enlightenment.

Very good post @nomad-magus, I really like to read your article, because many things I find in every article you. Speaking of sleep, it is very important to us. Because sleep is the cure for ultimate health for us. Sleep is a way to restore the condition of our body after doing the activity outside. In addition, sleep can also reduce muscle tension and ease the tension for our mind.

Sleep is actually about the same as death, because we never know anything that happens outside or in our environment when we sleep. Sleep is an unconscious state that causes individual reactions to the environment around the decline and even disappears, will be able to wake up and as before with a stimulus. Can mean sleep is a process of loss of perception and reactions that occur repeatedly. Thanks for sharing and hope you have a wonderful day ... :)

Thank you 🤞
... And what if I told you that you are dreaming even right now?..
Be with this thought for a while. ☺️

hehe, thanks again @nomad-magus, I love the way you respond to my comments. You are very creative and I salute you. I will continue to follow your article, because a lot of new knowledge and experience that I get in your article ... :)

I haven't gone through Sleep Paralysis, I haven't experienced lifting of the soul above my body, it really sounds scary, it seems that one is going to die, the one who has gone through it a number of times can easily fight it I think, or let it be as he knows what it is, but those who are new in it can suffer a lot, I bet they will think that they are dead, if I keep the Sleep Paralysis one side, I have gone through Dark entity, I have seen people in my dreams whome I don't know, it also gets scary sometimes

... First time it happened to me I was terrified and stopped the incident immediately. I advise any one to try though. It gives a new perspective about life.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

I agree, feeling death before death, what can be more adventurous than it

In fact, sleep is a very special needs in need by all human beings are no exception.
Many things are in the process of the body when we sleep. One of them is to make the body more relaxed, veins nerves that tense can return to normal when waking from sleep.
In some cases one of them as you @nomad-magus. It is not reasonable when we sleep. And perhaps it's not just happened to @nomad-magus himself.
I personally also never experienced like that, although not exactly the same as what you have experienced. I've experienced while sleeping is my body felt very heavy, can't move, tongue feels tied. No sound coming out, but I've been screamed at my hardest.

Love this post!
Always i was thiniking about try to create a Llucid dream, but always pepole scared me that if i dont know how to do it right i will get the body freeze. So i didnt try it yet ...😁

This is the scariest thing to happen to you it's a huge struggle to move you can't move anything it starts to hurt trying to move but as soon as you move a finger then you get full control and every thing just disappear.

Today scary indeed if one is not prepared.

I have myself faced the same condition many a times .....it really kills....sleep paralysis had hit me so many tines that if it happens now ...i let go and wait for it to end.....if you struggle you will feel like your entire body is locked down. ...even to move a tingue is not possible.....
I even have heard from my cousin that during that sleep paralysis someone came and sat on him....but i guess that is all hullicination...

It's real as you want it to be 👍

But i love the experience though ....

I've been troubled by this a lot.
I still remember the first time this happened to me, how scared I was..
I've had times when every night my body was sleep paralysed.
I've also had nights ,this happened multiple times.
Though it was really scary in the beginning, I'm now getting used to it because it isn't harmful.
The only problem I have of this now is it disrupts my sleep pattern.
I was thinking of posting something related to this and then I saw your post.
You have explained it amazingly

Thanks, mate.
You are gifted with flexible consciousness 👍

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

i experience it usually except that dark thing. I experience it so oftenly that as soon as i m in sleep paralysis i no longer make efforts to move as i kow its gonna last for a minute or two. Lately i have been thinking that i should consult a doctor but then i came to know about sleep paralysis and i stopped to panic.

Next time you may want to lift yourself out of the body and embark on the best adventure of your life...

Such adeventure may turn to be scary one. I would never want so.

Indeed. Do it only when ready 👍

The night was so terrible for me, even I was still very traumatized, at that time I was going to sleep, I was tired and sleepy, but I thought a lot more, I tried to sleep and my mind was still thinking about so many things that I could feel the real world transition and the nature of sleep, then I woke up and terrified, my heart was pounding, sweat pouring down, it was like falling ageless with no end, and I was so scared.

I've also felt something in my sleep,
like a dream, sometimes we are happy with beautiful dreams until waking time to sleep again, but sometimes we have nightmares until awakening time we feel an awkwardness

Most nightmares are just the processing of the day's mind activities. Nothing to be alarmed about.

thanks @nomad-magus

i will try to understand it

Experienced it more than 15 times.. But not from last 6 months

Great post. like your all.
There is no doubt that sleep is an important part of our lives and life itself.

It’s very scary and it makes you to wherein you are afraid to doze off of it taking place once more. I suppose in most instances after studying approximately sleep paralysis that this could be what it's far, now not to say that in some instances it thoroughly will be a paranormal experience. i am caught among what I assume is going on with me, maybe it’s a aggregate of both and this spirit (or spirits) realize precisely while to attack someone. regardless of if it’s a spirit or sleep paralysis or both it’s scary as hell.

think and based on the knowledge that I find, sleep is needed by the body is working during the day and night time body needed a break.
sometimes if the body was too tired will result in
the breath is not stable. a good sleep position is lying down and exposes her to the left of this is so that the stomach is not interrupted.
because the hull still work when sleeping.

a very good post @nomad-magus

Absolutely.. U said it right bro... During ones sleep the soul gets separated from the body whilst there is still a feeble connection between the two... And the same soul is completely departed in case of death... So nice enlightenment on sleep paralysis sir...God knows best

@nomad-magus ...scary though,, i myself have experienced such situations in my life..

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Hahaha. Lol. I have been a victim of sleep paralysis on so many occasions.Sleep researchers conclude that, in most cases, sleep paralysis is simply a sign that your body is not moving smoothly through the stages of sleep. Rarely is sleep paralysis linked to deep underlying psychiatric problems. It usually occurs at one of two times. If it occurs while you are falling asleep, it's called hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis. There is absolutely no need to treat sleep paralysis . But youu can improve your sleep habits , or treating narcolepsy will help.

Well this happens to me several time.at first i struggled alot to came back to the normal but now i have found the way to remain calm.in such condition when i realise that i am in sleep paralyses i began to start sing god name in my heart and wait for the situation to came back to normal condition.
In panic situation sleep paralysis is danger to encounter.

Aren't you curious to let the experience take you deeper?
