affiliate/referral program for steemit.com good idea?

I wonder if steemit would develop a affiliate/referral system.
I'm sure it would help to spread this site to the web much faster.

    I think a referral system would encourage spam, and make steemit look like a MLM program. To earn money with steemit just hold steem and refer friends, your friends involvement in steemit will drive the steem value up

        It's a good idea in my opinion. As long as the game can't be gambled and based on activity. Eg earn 10 sd if your referral reaches 100 steem power
