Africa: Who are Africans?

Good day fellow steemians, i will be writing today on the perculiar race you will find in Africa. The earliest people to inhabit Africa were probably the Birom of the Jos Plateau in Nigeria, the pygmies of the Congo basin, the Bushmen (Cans) of the Kalahari desert and the Hottentots (Khoikhoi) of the Namib desert. Most of them are still hunters and collectors, but they had been killed in large numbers and driven to their present enclaves by numerically stronger groups.

Four major racial groups are however predominant on the continent, they are, the negroes, hamites, semites and the white race.

The negroes are by far the largest group and they are made up of the Sudanese negroes (of which I belong), and the Bantu negroes of Central, Eastern and Southern Africa. These are the ancestors of black Americans.

Negroes

The hamites are tall and light complexioned and inhabit Northern Africa, including the Sahara. They are of white, reddish or light-brown complexion, with black wavy hair and thick lips.

Credit

The semites, who have intermingled with the hamites and are now difficult to distinguish from the white race, live in the Northeastern Africa principally in Egypt, Somalia and Ethiopia.

Semite

The white race or caucasians came very recently to the continent. They are made up of the minority groups of Europeans and Indians who settled in the Southern part of Africa and at one time on the highlands of Africa.

White race

These races have not been seperate all the time, for they have mixed by intermarriage, resulting in the emergence of a mixed half-caste race. The Fulani of West Africa and the Masai of the East African savanna are mostly products of this intermingling.
