Agora is a Swiss-based blockchain voting company helping to spread knowledge in putting voting systems on the blockchain.
See, in the U.S., a major issue from the last presidential election was voting.
Whether you were for or against the winning candidate, there was so much drama about falsified votes, voting systems, and who tallied it up that a new solution is needed.
For the first time that is taking place...
Sierra Leone Voting Goes Blockchain with Agora
The Agora CEO, Leonardo Grammar, has been giving updates on the election results in their Telegram group.
What they have been helping do is using the blockchain technology to tally and store votes.
While giving continual updates on the election, he also gave some feedback on how hard and stressful it is to take voting on the blockchain stating that he and his team “haven’t slept for 2 days.”
In Sierra Leone, this is the fourth presidential election since the country's civil war in 2002, thus putting stress on subsequent elections.
Tallying has shown success in this trial, as Agora was chosen for being one of the only fully transparent voting systems on the blockchain.
This now raises a bigger question for the future of the world.
Voting is one of the key ways to voice an opinion.
That's why we have proof-of-stake systems starting to become more popular as it shows whether or not someone is involved in what they are voting for.
And it's why delegated proof-of-stake seems to be repeating some of the old systems.
This Will Be Quite Interesting
But what does it mean both nationally and globally for voting rights?
If we can digitalize everything, then collectively, there should be an ability to vote for or against certain world events.
Yes, this is long-term but thinking long-term about what can play out is what we have to do.
We look forward to seeing more practical uses of the blockchain technology in the future.
