HOW DOES SEX WORK?

The human body works just like any machine. A given input is expected to produce a given output. In our own case we have the nervous and circulatory systems which makes the output responses automatic within split seconds.

In simple terms, there has to be a stimulus prior to the response. The stimulus varies widely with individuals. Something that arouses one person may actually turn off someone else. So you should study and understand their own cycle so you can take charge of it.

THE 4 STAGES OF SEXUAL AROUSAL.

If you read the above description then you should have the necessary knowledge to understand this.

The human physiology is an interesting system which explains how the body works. During sexual activity, there are unique responses that will signal a certain event. Eg. penile erection signals arousal in males while ejaculation signals climax.

1- EXCITEMENT PHASE:

This is the phase of stimulation and desire.Stimuli may include visual (seeing), tactile(touching), auditory(hearing) and even psychological.

IN MALES:

  • Increased blood flow.
  • Increased heart rate, breathing and blood pressure.
  • Erection.

IN FEMALES:

  • Increased blood flow around the private part.
  • Engorgement.
  • Flushing in light-skinned.
  • Increased lubrication.
  • Increased heart rate, breathing and blood pressure.

2- PLATEAU PHASE:

During the sexual activity, excitement increases gradually until you reach a point when the experience doesn't get more exciting. Its just becomes flat. This preceeds orgasm.

IN MALES:

  • Further Increased muscle tension and heart rate.
  • Closure of the bladder to prevent urination thus allowing only semen.

IN FEMALES:

  • Clitoral engorgement reduces.
  • Swelling and tightening of genital.
  • Much more lubrication.

3- ORGASM:

This phase is the holy grail of most sexual activities. Its the high that most people want to experience during intercourse.

IN MALES:

  • Rapid and irregular breathing.
  • Rapid pelvic muscle contraction.
  • Ejaculation.

IN FEMALES:

  • Rapid and irregular breathing.
  • Rapid pelvic muscle contraction.
  • Rapid vaginal and uterine contractions.
  • +/- Whole body shaking.
  • +/- Squirting (transparent fluid release).

4- RESOLUTION:

During the resolution phase, muscles relax, blood pressure drops, and the body returns to its resting state.

NOTES:

The essence of this short treatise is for you to relate it with your own sexuality. Any abnormalities in any of these phases will result in partial or total loss of sexual enjoyment.

It is our sincere wish that your bedroom life will get better. Even if you are not sexually active, the knowledge will definitely come in handy someday. Well, unless you eventually become a monk/nun. Lolx.

ENJOY!

This is incisive. I came across an article that included refractory period as the 5th stage of sexual cycle. However, it's almost non-existent in women but is pronounced in men and varies from one man to another. The argument for it is that some men go for another bout of sex immediately after resolution or some time after resolution. The lag period between resolution and the next excitement phase is what is referred to as refractory period. However, another argument against it is that refractory period should be an integral part of resolution phase and should not be placed as a separate phase. What's the take of @air-clinic on this?

Yeah you are very correct.
The refractory period is said to be existent in men but the duration varies with individuals. Some stay longer before the next arousal can take effect.

This is nice. But sexual climax or orgasm I think it's different from sexual satisfaction in a way.

And is it true that not all ladies achieve orgasm. I don't believe it through. But I find some ladies say they enjoy sex but have never had orgasm or squirts

You can enjoy sex even without reaching orgasm.
But orgasm is the highest form of enjoyment so its pretty easy to understand why people crave for it.
For men, its easy to reach.
For women however, its much more complex.
Infact, about 15% of women will never have an orgasm.

In this 4 stages, is there no stage of decline in excitement or pleasure? Because I only saw you mention a phase that is like a plateau not necessarily a decline, so that's my question.

Nice facts by the way

That's also known as Resolution Phase.
At this point the individual loses the urge for further sex as physiology returns back to normal.

Sex is the best exercise... Good cardio work out.. 😀
