On the Topic of this Week...

In the recent weeks, there have been a lot of strikes of different bodies of health workers going on strike. Being a very delicate sector, strike actions lead to increased morbidity and mortality of patients.

Do we blame the health worker? Perhaps they may or may not have a genuine demand. Perhaps the government is not treating them fine and the worker conditions are poor.

Pls contribute to this topic let's know what you think. Let's get to hear your opinion, advises, experiences and all. Every comment gets a good Upvote.

What Are The Causes Of Health Worker Strikes?

@sir-clinic rocks!
I will share my views on the basis of my experience in this context.

  • Misbehavior of attendants of patients is on rise in india and is leading cause of strikes nowadays. It has become a commom practice in india to beat doctors especially in emergency settings by attendants for mismanagement which is not always the case.Problem with attendents here is that they want their patients Hale and hearty even if they are brought dead to hospital. Doctors strike fork security.

  • Health workers strike for against salary. As for workload in our hospitals is concerned health workers are paid just peanuts compared to our minsters, MLAs, MPs etc. In this era we hardly have both ends meet.

  • Strikes against poor infrastructure and lack of manpower leading to increased workload and lesser opportunities for skill development in health care workers.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm Interesting topic!!!!
I would not completely blame the Health workers
Because in all candour the working conditions are poor😰😰😟😟😟
The truth has to be said at all times, the conditions of most hospitals in Nigeria is not favourable for efficient productivity
You would agree with me that machineries and necessary equipments makes work easy in all sectors
But it is painful that the health sector that has to do with life lacks the necessary equipment
For example
In Intensive Care unit in major hospitals they are only obsolete mechanical ventilators and monitors
This health workers always have to derive means to substitute for this machine thereby making them strain and work harder than their colleagues in other countries!!!

Humm....Health workers going on strike

We shouldn't risk things like this because people's life are at risk. Being Emotionally, we will surely blame the health workers but in the real sense of it they are not to be blame because they need to be okay too. Yoruba's will say (Ti ina ban jo ni, ton jo omo eni, ti ara eni laa koko yanju). They cannot, because they want to save lives and live their own life uncomfortably.

Government should try as much as possible to treat them the way they should treat people, and also value them the way people's life are supposed to be valued.

Mainly due to poor working conditions, and poor facilities. Many times there's a delay in payment of their remunerations or nonchalance on the part of the government to increase their salaries. A good number of them revolt due to exposure to health hazards without adequate protection.

Greetings.
In my opinion there are several factors that influence:

  • The lack of medical supplies, the lack of operation of special study teams such as resonators, tomographs, laboratory. In our country this is the main thing
  • Low medical salaries that are not enough to eat and much less to study.
  • The malnutrition of patients, which means that they can not respond to medical treatment, in addition to the fact that there is no food available in hospitals at present.
