From the Instagram Page @Airplanes_Of_War (or maybe @AirplanesofWar here on steemit one day? :)
amazing photo! Can't tell if it was real or not but I know the one below is!
Amazing to see 3 generations of super bombers all next to each other! But in this image we see a very large B 3 Peace Maker in instead of a B52...The B29 super fortress cost 3 billion dollars in 1940s money while the atomic bomb only cost one billion! So the B29 was arguably an even more complex project and piece of machinery! Early Atomic bombs are relatively simple compared to a b29 and all of its intricate components and systems!
And the post war intercontinental super bomber B36 Peacemaker was an even BIGGER project!
See just how MASSIVE this Peacemaker bomber was?
For more information oon this incredible 1950s relic of the cold war, check out this series which is one of my FAVORITE things on youtube, called Great Planes which was bought by Discovry in the late 80s and became Discovery Wings Channel with Sea Wings, Wings of the Red Star, Wings of the Third Riech...they dont make documentaries like they used to , like tese ones! these are so relaxing they put me to sleep at night!
Here is the Great Planes episode on the Convair B36 peacemaker built an flight tested right here in San Diego, Ca!
(This is a Youtube video, hard to see the Play button in the middle but its is not just a picture! )
And here is an interesting take on a b17 flying fortress! No idea of this image is real or not or if they did make some sort of experimental version of the b17 with this strange wing configuration with frontal cannards!
