Drive around town with me : Talkeetna, Alaska

Let’s take a drive around Talkeetna. The road is bumpy, muddy and slushy.

First we have to drive down Talkeetna Spur Road, we are going to make out first stop at mile 13 at a over look of Talkeetna and Denali.

We start out at the view point marked on the map below with a pin drop, this is the view.

I am going to draw up a map and label it the best I can so you can follow along.

I will refer to them as they are marked on the map with a snippet about them.

Then we travel down the road aways, to “A” on the map.
Talkeetna Gifts and Collectables.
This is a awesome little shop that has just about everything. When you visit I suggest this place.

Next up is “B” on the map. This is one of the historic buildings in Talkeetna.
This is Negley’s, convenient/grocery store.
The help they get during the summer is not the best or friendly. They cram as much as they can into the place and expect people to know where to look and find it.
They have been witnessed making fun of tourist not knowing their is a hanging sign above their head with prices for the ice cream case, because having the price on the case is to obvious.

Then onto “C” The Fairview Inn, and bar. It is also a historic building. They have live music and a bar.

“D” Gift shops, zip line guides, and food

“E” Twister Creek and Denali Brewing Co.
We have eaten here, okay food, very high price even in the off season.
The inside is very nice with knotty pine domed ceiling with flags from the summit. They also have lots of seating.

“F” Mountian High Pizza Pie, I have not been here yet. But it always smells amazing. Plus it’s pizza!

“G” The Roadhouse Bakery and Inn, another historic building. They have great pie and cookies. My kids favorite cookie from the Roadhouse is moose poop.

“H” A clothing store and K2 Aviation. The clothing store has some cool things, some even hand made, a lot of hippie stuff. K2 flies people to base camps on Denali Mt. They also do aerial tours.

“J” A very cool gift shop, and Denali Hemp.
It’s hard to describe the gift shop, it was just cool!
The Denali Hemp has sents in it so if you are sensitive beware! They sale Hemp porducts and herbal stuff, hippie health stuff.

“K” The only marijuana dispensary, use to be a juice bar. Have not been in the establishment yet.

“L” Ranger station, it’s okay.
They have flags that where on the top of Denali hanging from the ceiling and a small hands on area for kids to learn about animals in the area.

“M” The original School House converted into a Museum, and a historic cabin.
The Museum is fun and small, but consists of three buildings. One building is a large model of the Denali mountain range. Another is about the rail road, and the last one is about the pioneers of Talkeetna.

“N”
Well it looks like I forgot to take a photo, this is the Hanger, or Denali Arts Council. They have shows and sometimes movies.

“O” Talkeetna Post Office

Here is where we meet up with the main road, Talkeetna Spur.

This is also the route we take when playing Pokémon, there are a lot of spinner and Pokégyms.

I wanted to get photos now, before tourist season. Because they literally pack the streets. You can hardly drive your car because they walk down the middle of the road.

There are a few other places here and there that I didn’t put in, you will just have to come visit to check them out... cough river rafting cough ... Oh excuse me 🤭

The Alaska Rail Road stops in Talkeetna, the Rail Road is a excellent way to travel form north to south, or vice versa, in Alaska. You get to see some amazing views and stop in some small towns along the way.

These are all my photos, all originals.

Thanks for sharing. I love seeing your photos. It is so different to here. I would love to visit one day.

You’re welcome, Alaska is worth the trip 😊

Waoo...Nice place ... Hope you enjoyed ! :)

It is always nice to visit. It’s really nice in the summer when you can walk around town.

Fantastic looking place, i was going to go there once, but missed the opportunity... Maybe another time...

I hope you do get another opportunity, the pinks start running in early July in valdez at Alison Point. It’s a hatchery so it’s more sustainable.
They have a flash freezer to freeze and ship your fish, you can pack more if you felet them out 😉
Like have said before I love Valdez 💗

These little towns are beautiful, I loved the views in Seward and I sometimes miss Alaska. Then I see the snow piled up and think that I do not miss it that much. LOL.

I have never been to Seward 😕 I would love to go one day. But with my animals and homestead that is a challenging trip.
Yeah the snow can be a drag sometimes. Humans adapt and find ways to live and make it tolarable.

This is a house in Talkeetna, I was not impressed with the plow guys ability to block someone’s house like that. 👎

Yeah, things like that are not cool. I would have someone's head on a platter so to speak. When I was in Seward they blocked the driveway to the apartment complex we lived in plow piling it up in the driveway. So a bunch of us went to where they parked and piled the snow behind their cars with a friends borrowed plow. They had to dig out because they locked the gate and could not get a truck. Never blocked our driveway again.

Love the revenge 😈
That’s such BS too!

What a beautiful view!

Thanks

Out of curiosity what is your frost free date? Still seeing a lot of snow in Talkeetna!

Late May, early June. I think 🤔
Yesterday it got up to 55°F, I seen the low of 34°F.
