Alaska, my story part 1

Mhhhh Alaska.. Alaska in winter? Why not!

My story begins when I was going trough a bit of a tough time in my life and decided to go somewhere farthest north west I have ever been. I live in England.

I span my globe and thought, you know what, why not to go to Alaska. This is where most crazy people go to, isn’t.. Crazy ice road truckers, people wanting to live in their own element of the land and me, just a crazy girl who lost the trust in the world and wanted to escape.

I’ve arrived at Fairbanks, Alaska in the middle of the winter. It was late January 2018 -29C (-20F). I walked out of the airport and bam the cold just hit me in the face. I’ve tried to breathe trough my nose but I couldn’t because my nose hair froze solid. The walk, even though it’s just a short one, to my rental car, was mad.

Cold, can’t breathe through my nose, can’t breathe trough my mouth because my teeth are too sensitive to cold, my hands are not working properly, frozen solid (it wasn’t actually, it was just cold), I can’t unzip my back back to put my gloves on, made it to the car. Heating on, full blast. Waiting for the car windows to unfreeze. Cold. Waiting. Working out the radio. Trying to use navigation system, nah it’s frozen. Waiting. Blowing hot air on my hands. Waiting.. The car is warming up, hmmm nice.

Finally I drove out of the airport. Snow is everywhere, driving on ice, skidding all over the place, locals are tooting their horns at me, because I’m doing 15mph and driving like a 80 year old. I don’t care, I just want to make it to the hotel.

Wow the drive to hotel is just incredible, it’s so so beautiful.

The rental car is pretty cool too, pretty easy to drive. Smallest car in Fairbanks though. Locals drive pretty cool cars, mine is very small comparing to the others.

Cars locals drive (ok, so this picture was not taken in Fairbanks, but you get the idea)

I’ve arrived at the hotel. I need to sleep now, I will tell you the rest of the story shortly.
