In 1936, a young girl from New York sent a letter to one of the most important scholars of modern history - if not more important - Albert Einstein, who changed our concept of the universe, time and place, the Nobel laureate in physics in 1921.
Philis went to Einstein with an old and important question:
Riverside Church,
19 January 1936
Dear d. Einstein
We have a question: do the scholars pray? In Sunday School Row. He began to ask if we could believe in both science and religion.
We send letters to scientists and other important people, to try to get an answer to this question.
We would be very honored if you answered our question: Do the scholars pray, and what do they pray for?
We are in the sixth stage, Mrs. Ellis.
With all respect,
Phyllis.

Just five days later, Einstein responded:
24 January 1936
Dear Phyllis,
I will try to answer your question as simply as possible, and this is my answer:
Scientists believe that every event, including events and human affairs, is due to the laws of nature.
Therefore, the world can not be tempted to believe that the course of events can be influenced by prayer, desire or security that manifest itself supernaturally.
However, we must recognize that our actual knowledge of these powers and the laws of nature is not integrated, and therefore the belief in the existence of a final spirit depends on a kind of faith.
Such a belief remains widely present even under the current achievements in science.
But at the same time, anyone who seriously aspires to pursue science becomes convinced that some of that "spirit" is reflected in the laws of the universe, a spirit in a concept that transcends the concept of the human spirit.
In this way, the pursuit of science leads us to a particular religious feeling, which is certainly quite different from the concept of religiosity when someone is more naïve.
With my greetings and cordiality,
Albert Einstein
