7-Day Music Challenge - Day 3- Full Moon Fever (1989) by Tom Petty

I am enjoying this Album Challenge a lot more than I thought I would. I never considered myself a music person, since I can't play anything, nor have I had any interest in learning. I can't sing, and I never kept up with music culture, the latest albums, artists, or videos. When I was in my teens, when all my classmates were glued to MTV or MuchMusic, I had no interest. I was too busy riding horses, I guess. This challenge is teaching me that I do indeed have my own taste in music, and have curated a lovely collection of favourites over the years.

Here, my friends, is my very first favourite. Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever was released in 1989. I was born in 1987, and one of the farthest back memories I can recall, is loving the colours in this album art:

The first musician I ever learned of, the first music I ever loved. You can imagine what the words "dancing at the zombie zoo" would sound like to a child... I obviously didn't get Tom's intended metaphor, I was literally imagining a girl dancing with zombies!

I re-discovered this album when I was in my late teens and had just started dating @mstafford. The nostalgia was strong then, and it's even stronger now, with extra Marky memories attached now too.
Beyond the nostalgia, this is just an awesome album. It's classic Tom Petty. It's fun to listen to, it's rock n roll, it's very 80s.

It was a bucket list item for me to see Tom in concert. I cried and cried and cried when he passed away. Not just because I didn't get to see him, but because he was such a legend- a talented artist gone too soon. Breaks my heart.

On a happier note, let's enjoy some of my favourite songs from this amazing album:

Free Fallin:

Jeez I get choked up listening to this one

Won't Back Down:

Yer So Bad:

and one more today because Tom Petty:

Zombie Zoo:

I hope you enjoyed this blast from the past! If you haven't already, get your hands on Tom's discography... he's a legend and everyone should have a chance to appreciate his work.

So, below are the rules for the challenge. According them, I now have to nominate another Steemian to join in, so I nominate @donnadavisart- let's hear your faves! Would love to know if there's any music that inspires your art!Cheers!

Sort Order:

My favorite part of the album is the intermission that lets the people who bought a tape or record flip it and not have any time lost compared to those that bought the CD.

I have this strange mix of Free Fallin and Won't Back Down in my head now :)
