Blue Moon Cinnamon Horchata Ale - A Review

I used to frequent a little place called Tacos El Norte in Northern Illinois. It was our local Mexican restaurant. I had my first sip of horchata there when I was probably 16 years old. I instantly fell in love with it.

If you're not familiar with horchata, it's a

Mexican cinnamon and rice beverage. It's very tasty.

So when I walked into our local Winn-Dixie today and saw that Blue Moon had put out an horchata flavored ale, I knew I had to try it.

I enjoy Blue Moon from time to time, and I remember it was among my mom's favorites.

I wasn't sure how it was going to taste. I poured it out into a beer mug, and let the head settle. I always smell my brews first, so I did. I noticed it smelled like cinnamon, but it wasn't overpowering. I noticed there was a silky something about in the brew, you may be able to see it in this picture:

I figured that it was the cinnamon. I took my first sip. I felt pretty underwhelmed at first, but this ale started to grow on me as I drank it.

It has an aftertaste that faintly reminds me of horchata, but it's missing something. I think I was expecting it to be thicker, as horchata usually is, but realized it's a beer trying to recreate the taste of horchata, and not the consistency.

I would have to give this beer a

8/10

overall.

It's a lovely tasting beer, but a little mellow. The color is nice, smell is nice, and poured with a nice frothy head.

In the end, I would recommend this for someone to try once, but I probably won't buy it again. A 6-er was $8.49 if memory serves me.

Oof, it was too heavy for me. Granted, I prefer lighter beers, pale ales and the like. I could tast the cinnamon, but it still didn't quite get "horchata" enough.

I'm used to heavier beers, as I almost never drink light beers. But yeah it's not as horchata as I would've liked.

Thanks for the review. I think I want to give it a try. I doubt our stores will have it they are kind of slow in Idaho but I'll keep watching.

Lol you never know! Hope you enjoy it if you do!
