Alone is a sad Poetry by Edgar Allan Poe
We cannot understand this poem without some backstory of its origin. The poet, Edgar Allan Poe, wrote the piece after the death of his mother. And because he kept it hidden the poem did not get published until after his death, posthumously. Thus, the theme of the poem bordered around the loneliness, dissociation, and isolation that he battles with every day, which is now aggravated by the death of his mother. In the poem, the author showed that from his childhood, he has always derived joy, sorrow, anxiety, and other emotions from a different source from other people. He writes in the poem that his isolation and loneliness which is a result of an intensive imaginative mind is a curse and also a blessing. A curse in the sense that it isolates him from others and a blessing as it is the fuel that drives his exceptional writing and artistry.
