Alopecia is the medical term for hair loss. One type is alopecia areata. It is an autoimmune disease, which is a condition in which the body's immune system attacks the body's own healthy cells. This disease attacks the hair follicles. If you experience hair loss in the amount of hair loss that you experience is very much beyond reasonable limits, it never hurts to consult a doctor. Severe hair loss may be caused by autoimmune diseases such as alopecia areata, lupus, to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Hair loss caused by hereditary factors, cannot be cured, what can be done is to prevent hair loss from being too fast. Alopecia areata does not cause complications that can harm the sufferer. In addition, alopecia areata is also not contagious. However, there are several conditions that can occur when a person experiences alopecia areata, namely: Permanent baldness in 10% of sufferers.
