Last coin Standing

I've only been involved with crypto currencies for about 5 weeks now. Very green but i've been paying very close attention to every piece of information I can get my hands on. Even the things I don't fully understand which is a lot.

One of the first things I noticed on coin market cap was the amount of crypto currencies. I only knew of BTC like the average Joe and assumed there were only a handful more. Little did I know, but the total number was 720. Since then the number has jumped to over 750 in the last few weeks.

So fast forward a few weeks and I hear this "Expert" on a youtube channel talking about coin consolidation. Me being the green guy that I am I figured he has got to be right. How can 100's of coins all prevail. It sounds like a merchant nightmare in itself. Will checkout lines become the equivalent to the fancy drink machines you see in burger joints with 30 buttons to offer you 30 drinks from the same spout? That's way above my paygrade but I just don't see that happening.

Of course no one knows who will be the last coin(s) standing. But it is definitely a thought I will be keeping on the back burner of my mind. Also, i'm pretty sure that day is far far away. It's probably safe to assume alt coins would have to become more known as well as popular to the public for some sort of consolidation to take place.

At the moment, every coin is aggressively paving it's own path. Some more than others. I, (we) can only hope that we capture the moment when we recognize which coin we need to go all in on because the rest may disappear.
