Hi, I'm fav (slack), known as @ash here.

Started with 0, no mining, bought $50 worth of Steem. Today I reached 14k SP

I'll answer questions for the next 3-4 hours if you're interested :)

What is your strategy to be this successful in Steemit?

I try to post 1-2 posts per day, either something funny/light or a useful info/tutorial.
also, I'm active on the slack, helping people. this is a social network, so socializing is key :)

What are your favorite parts about steemit and who are some other people who post unique or educational content that you have benefitted from?

I really love how easy it is to introduce non-crypto people.

Introduced @suika - a youtuber/singer - she went from 0 knowledge to using and trading a crypto in less than 3 days. a great success story in my opinion.

Great steemians are @dan @stellabelle @cryptoctupus to name a few. I actively use the follow function, so once that's public you can check the great people out :)

I feel some may be turned off with the amount of cryptocurrency talk, but as more people join the community, especially those younger and older, I feel that a greater diversity of content will appear. I think it would be great to have some separate pages dedicated to music, art, etc so you could browse "New Rock Music" or "Trending Reggae" instead of searching for them individually. The site is already great but it has the potential to launch people's careers. I am quite excited for that. What improvements do you think would add value to steemit?

Here are the most important things on my book I'm currently missing

mobile app
marketplace (in development)
escrow (in development)
messaging (in development for GUI)
down votes stake based. (do not hide posts for newbie dv's)
restrict accounts with less than 20 SP (eg 1 post per hour, commenting every 10 mins)
better wallet overview (example add a ticking $D interest counter, explain payouts)
add clickable links to history payout posts
add follower stream
add mute lists and make them follow-able via proxy
language filters
addthis.com sharing buttons
post stats / analytics
referral program
a blog page where the user can decide which posts to show
night mode theme
ipfs images integration

I do think that people with less than a certain amount of steempower should be limited in how many posts they can make per day. That would encourage them to invest and post more and help steemit financially or to post more meaningful things and help add value to the community. Memes and jokes are great but when you compare that with a well thought out heart felt post there is not a whole lot of value added in the latter in my opinion. But what's great about steemit is that if someone disagrees with me they have the power to reward any content they find interesting or entertaining.

must answer you here, since we reached the max comment level :)

restrict accounts with less than 20 SP (eg 1 post per hour, commenting every 10 mins)

this is still my opinion. accounts with less than 20 Steem Power should be restricted

100% agree. I'm alright with people posting their own videos or posting reactions to news stories, but simply posting a video from YouTube or just a news story without any insight seems to be what some people are doing which can drown out some people who work hard on their content.

Hi fav, I'm fav, please check my blog.

Thank you for all your commitment in Steem and BitShares.
You are really a valuable asset to both communities.

I like your "follow me" link at the top of the post. I have clicked on other follow links. I went and clicked on my account and I don't see all the people I am following. I have to look at my old comments to see what I like. Sorry, it may be a stupid question or really simple, but I just don't see it. Thanks for your time.

Follow/Mute is only recorded at the moment. the full feature has yet to be implemented.

there are no stupid questions :)

Excellent, thanks again.

What do you think cryptocurrencies will be in 2 years and in your opinion what needs to be done so they become more popular, just like steem did.

first of all, steem is very young. no one knows how successful it will be in a year or ten.

What I really like about steem is how easy it is to get in to. no need to know crypto, wallet or any jargon. just make an account and post/comment/vote - you can still ask questions/read to get deeper knowledge

How long ago did you join?

you can actually see any users' stats here: https://steemd.com/@ash

just change the @ name

Oh cool. I was trying to scan down to your first blog past and was taking forever. Lol Thanks for that.

So you have done very well for your time here. I think people need to see this kind of stats to prove its possible. I hope you get some more questions and it generates some interest for what you have been able to do. Most people are still trying to wrap their head around the idea of this. I see you were providing support on Slack as well. Good luck.

Do you know smooth? He downvoted my post and its... Yeah lol

I know him form slack.

Downvoting should be used as a moderation tool in my opinion. I guess he downvoted you because this news was posted at least 10 times, trying to take some corrective actions. Don't take it personal :)

I mean okay fair enough. It was supposed to be some free buck and it's not like I put so much effort so I get it, but one person just crashing my post doesn't seem fair. DPoS... Who am I to blame... Lol @smooth Yes, you... but I cannot hate you because that would mean a death sentence of myself in steemit. Sigh... Lol

nothing to do with DPoS. it's just a big whale, can happen everywhere

Do you ever run of idea on what to post? And what's your dvice to people who seeking idea on what to write?

I like to write how-to's and follow funny stuff. it's super easy for me to find content. I mentioned it in another question, but if I feel weird I browse giphy.com :) or browse through new and comment

What's your favorite song? :^)

I like this one currently

and your covers of course! :D

Can you explain in more detail how comments are paid out for the OP and the comment or and those who vote on comments? I know they are all rewarded with the OP getting 50% but I wasn't sure exactly how upvotes and other comments were paid out.

I can try. I can't. asked in slack in order to not post some bullshit here. I thought 25% goes to the OP, but heard 100% stays with the comment poster.

I'm sure you'll find the answer if you do a google search site:steemit.com :)

From the whitepaper:

When you reply to someone else, they get 50% of any payout you receive in that thread. This rule applies up to 6 levels deep.

Here's how I see it. Imagine that I got $100 worth of upvotes and that you and bendjmiller222 made $0 from direct upvotes. Then, from what I understand, I'd get paid $53.33, you'd get $26.66 from your comment here, bendjmiller222 would make $13.33 and you'd make $6.66 for your OP.

outdated. I asked ned the other day, comments keep the full reward

OK great! One more question. Is there a difference for being the first to upvote content that becomes very popular into the thousands of dollars vs the second or third? Example someone posts content and you vote it up and it goes on to 10,000 dollars. Does your curation reward have to do with your steempower or is it based on a different calculation? And if the first two people to upvote were minnows with the same sp would the they both receive the same curation or the second slightly less? I'll try to look it up if you are unsure but I figured I'd at least ask. And now I'll let you get to answering others questions so I don't dominate the response field too much. You have been a great help.

I guess there are only some minor differences :)

What are your favourite topics in terms of content to read about?

so far I'm not browsing a specific topic (or trending). just check new posts for interesting stuff, prefer to read some more about steem for the time being

Hi fav( @ash ), @bravenewcoin (slack: thecryptodrive) here! Nice to be back and being able to post, albeit from a temp account while the other is in limbo. I would like to understand the significance of posting replies from a reward perspective. Ie.

  1. Do replies benefit the author of the post?
  2. Does the $ value of the reply (edited) combine with the $value of the main post in the main post value display?
  3. Does the author of the post benefit from the votes on the replies?

Thanks for being a star and always being active, nice to see a friendly Fav Desu anime face in Slack and @ash always supporting our posts on the site.

  1. this was asked earlier. I'm not sure to be honest. if anything, comments push your post up :)

2 mh, no idea.

3 see1

thanks for your kind words :)

Sorry I read the questions, must have missed it. Thanks ash, :) :)

hah no problem. it's still a bit hard to browse. I'm sure the design will be enhanced over time

What are some practical ways you could see steem changing the daily lives of folks around the world as it has for us?

it's mostly censor resistant and can be used anonymously. I think that's a big plus :)

Hi ash, me again....I made a gif file using giphy a week ago and didn't work on the thumbnail, what's the trick there? This one of yours works: https://steemit.com/support/@ash/me-giving-support-to-people-on-slack-yesterday

you have to use markdown.

I used html, but will try markdown, thanks!

html should be avoided for now

Hello @ash !
I just started to post on steemit 3 days ago.I think I'm doing something pretty original, I haven't seen something similar here. How can I get more votes? I have been active on other users blogs commenting, sharing things. But it's so hard to stay at the top at the list. I make my post and in 30 minutes it's so down in the list it's not visible anymore. Thanks for taking the time to answer questions!

That's all you can do. Most of my early posts earned nothing too. Just do your thing and ignore the money part, makes more fun this way :)

thank you for replying. I will keep doing my thing then :)

Promote your steem post on other social media sites that you have a following (Twitter, Facebook, reddit, your blog). That's how I found ash on Steemit. PS: I gave you a couple of up votes.

Thanks for the advice and the up votes!

  1. What other sites or message boards are you into right now? 2) Where do you draw inspiration when you are running low on energy or ideas?
  1. I'm an admin on bitsharestalk.org for some years now. other than that, I was very active on reddit until steem. rarely visit reddit these days.
  2. there are two kinds of posts I really like to "write": how-to's or some slice of life/gifs. I try to post at least once a day, if I feel weird I just browse through giphy.com :)

How many times do you Upvote others contain a day? Do you stay within a certain number or just do when every? And why?

I upvote if I really like the content. there's no fixed amount
