I'd have more respect for these people like Amash if they just came out and said they were afraid MAGA people would go insane. Instead of trying to couch that belief in some sort of legal analysis.

And Michael Cohen for that matter- it was a very weird situation where Cohen had been indicted by the Feds and the Feds were alleging Trump directed the criminal behaviour.
Are we supposed to think everyone around Trump engaged in criminal behaviour but him?
For New York in particular and especially Bragg's office, felony falsifying business record charges are commonplace. And such charges in context with elections are also not unusual, with several individuals being convicted in this regard.
What would have been unusual would be Trump not being charged simply for being the former president.
