Amazon Prime Now- Tip or No Tip?

I just made for 1st purchase using Amazon Prime Now. I notice that the application automatically added a recommended "tip" for the driver of $5 on a $25 purchase.

I went ahead and tipped the suggested amount. But after some more thought I wondered if we should tip?

Is Amazon Prime Now employing the tipping recommendation to lower their costs for drivers or is it a true mechanism to encourage quality service?

I don't tip the FedEx or UPS driver. So why is a Prime Now Driver any different?

If nobody tipped, would it force Amazon to increase the driver's pay scale?

Is this just another fee used to hide the true cost of a product?

So the question remains- To tip or not to tip?

Thoughts?

Here is my problem with the the way Amazon has the tipping set up or at least the last time I used PrimeNow which was admittedly over a year ago as I have been nomad for a year.

When I last ordered it was based on a percentage of the order value. I forget the exact items I ordered but I want to say it was two memory cards for either my camera or gopro and one or two other small but expensive items. It suggested a tip of like forty dollars. By their logic if that bag had contained a couple packs of post it notes it would have been worth a couple dollar tip. If they are going to automatically suggest a tip they should base it on distance and weight not cost.

Then again I do have to pay exorbitant tips if I go out and drink some scotch just because it is more expensive and I am pretty sure a 30 dollar drink is no harder to pour than two dollar rot gut. I am a former delivery guy though so I do always tip unless I get really crappy service.

Amazon probably have an obligation to pay minimum wage, so it should not affect it, what tipping might affect is how many people become delivery drivers for them, if the tippings good, maybe it will be a popular job and quicker delivery times for the consumer?

I always tip delivery people, but in person to make sure they actually receive it in addition to salary.
