The native peoples seem just as cruel as the colonizers; one set of primates replaced by another.
Sacagaewea had a black slave which I NEVER hear talked about (tho tbf he was her husband's, who married her when she was young so its more "slave was handed to her" instead of "she enslaved someone", but she still had one!). (also separately I just ordered a book on York, who is fascinating and I didn't know about at all until recently!)
Lots of the massacres and brutality towards natives was in response to massacres and brutality (in one instance, the native Americans killed a six year old white girl, but not before by cutting off her legs and forcing her to dance on the stumps).
Ofc the settlers werent much better, and would do things like "deliberately destroy all the bison so the natives would starve and flee" or "slaughter a group of families when they were expecting to bargain for peace" so when it comes to the atrocity list there were really no winners anywhere.
Except maybe like, the Mormons sometimes lol
