In the last 500 years, America had been colonized by the Spanish, French, and British.

Cajun people in Louisiana are from the French-speaking region of “Acadia” in Maine and Quebec. Cajun is a pronunciation of “A-cay-jun” or “A-cay-di-an”—> Acadian. Ever heard of Acadia National Park? That’s in Maine.

There are parts of northern Maine where New England French is still common at home.

Missouri French is a real dialect.

Hawaiian is an official language of the state of Hawaii (which you can now learn with Duolingo).

Puerto Ricans are US Citizens who don’t need a passport to travel anywhere in the United States, and they speak mostly Spanish.

Look at these maps. Both the Spanish and the French conquered more of the current United States of America than the British ever did.

There are many more examples of languages other than English in the United States. I’d greatly appreciate you sharing yours.
