After a toy gun he shot on a movie set killed the film's director of photography and injured the director, actor Alec Baldwin stated his "heart is torn."
According to the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office, Halyna Hutchins, 42, was killed and Joel Souza, 48, was injured on the set of "Rust," a Western being filmed at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Sante Fe, New Mexico.
According to the Associated Press, court documents show Baldwin was given a loaded pistol by an assistant director who suggested it was safe to use minutes before fatally shooting Hutchins. The assistant director had no idea the toy gun was loaded with live ammunition, according to a search warrant issued in Santa Fe court.
Baldwin's blood-stained outfit and weapon were also taken as evidence, according to the request. According to sheriff's spokesman Juan Rios, no charges were filed right away.
Hutchins was flown to the University of New Mexico Hospital by helicopter, where she was pronounced dead. Souza's injuries were taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center for treatment. Since then, he has been released.
Baldwin posted on Twitter Friday, "There are no words to express my sorrow and anguish on the horrific tragedy that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and much loved colleague of ours." "I'm fully working with the police inquiry into how this tragedy transpired, and I've reached out to her husband to express my condolences and offer my support to him and his family."
