Why I Love Raising My Kids in Germany

in americaningermany •  5 years ago

Hey guys,

I have been thinking a lot about this lately and the German people often ask me why I moved my family to Germany?

My normal response is “To make Germany great again!”

Usually I get a few laughs then the serious comments come. “But there is so much opportunity in America, I would rather live in America, oh it's because of Trump isn't it! etc.

Truth be told I love it here. It's the perfect environment for my kids and it reminds me of how it was to grow up in the US in the 90s.

We were free as kids. We could roam around town worry free, go to school to be kids, play unsupervised, walk home from school alone.

There was no fear of school shootings (I was in 8th grade for combine shooting and don't really remember anything about it), teachers still let us play and grow on our own, the police were friendly and helpful, sports had boys teams and girls teams, it was a good time.

Turns out there is still a place like this, here in Germany!

The police are part of the neighborhood and are happy and helpful, you don't have to worry about kidnapping, predators, or shootings.

Shoot, I even leave my kids in the car sometimes when I run into the store quick. Could you imagine if I did that in the US???

Did I mention “free” healthcare? Well, we pay roughly 200 US dollars a month for a family of 5 and it covers everything no copays, no prescription fees, free er visits.

Don’t worry you don’t need to tell me about the taxes or how unsustainable it is I already know. I am just telling you how it is.

I can’t speak for all of Germany, but here where I live in the North, the parents are strict but the kids are free to be kids. They even dress like it’s still the 90s!

Of course, there are things I miss and wish Germany did like the U.S., but then it wouldn't be Germany and I will save that for another post!

Best,
-@baticbadger

Germany is definitely a better option. It's like everything bad that comes on the market is being first tested in the US. Never wished to live there. I lived in Germany and it's a decent country built on respect and logic. How long will it last that way I don't know, but I'd rather live in a country that looks old and dated, but has a healthy way of life, than in one filled with toxic food, drugs, violence, lack of respect and perspective. Probably US does better than Germany in some aspects but I would still choose Germany. I have a school mate that moved in summer to Chicago. He said he has done that for his child. I wouldn't. I know Romania is not USA, but still wouldn't.

In my state alone there has been two school shootings this past week. The us people have an identity crisis. They don’t know who they are anymore and like you said no respect so it went to shit.

They don’t know who they are anymore

No wonder with that much social media shit and garbage music and youtube idiotic videos. They're simply being brainwashed and kept away from having a purpose in life and live with passion. The humanity as a whole is going through a crisis but I guess in the US is more severe because that's where all starts from.

My normal response is “To make Germany great again!”

Of course.

I wish I could live in a place with the 1970's small town-feel in which I grew up. Alas, those days are long gone. Seems like you've found a good little spot to put some roots down - No helmets or safe spaces required.

Well the fire station is a safe place from @mrsbadger if that counts! 🤣

Haha, yeah that'll work. 🙂

That sounds great dude! How did you come to live there? You must have spent time there before moving the fam over. My dad was there with the Army in 1961-1962 and he has some stories!

I actually spent no time here in the army. I met my wife in college and she lives here. We settled in the us but after we had kids we knew we had to live here. It was rough immigrating with a 2 year old and 7 month old twins!!! But we survived. After that I am in awe of my ancestors who did it in the other direction by boat for who knows how long at sea. Crazy!

Curious to read the follow-up article you will write about "wish Germany did like the U.S., but then it wouldn't be Germany and I will save that for another post!"
Germany is so clean, I love the autoban lanes, and love the recycling program. I was there twice, and recall the pretty tiny cabinet refrigerator in the house I stayed while I was there, and how little my trash was every week... I learned to recycle in Germany, and when I got back to the US, my kitchen life was changed, lol. I think I shall write about that in one of my articles, and dedicate it to you, @baltibadger. Have a great weekend and take care 🥰🌺🤙

Oh yeah, we are professional trash sorters. I don’t know how I ever threw a battery away before! In our village we have bio trash cans too, but since we moved into the country last summer don’t really used it anymore. 🤣🤣🤣 can’t wait to see the blog @silversaver888 😁

Howdy sir badger! That is wonderful news and I'm so glad for you there. I wonder if they will slowly change also or if that is the way it is there.

I think what they have going for them is they are still 90% German here. Which makes for a stronger resistance to the degradation of culture but you still see it. I mean it’s so funny to see all the “American” names and stuff coming out over here. Names that in the us would be trailer trash lol. But I just saw two school shootings in my home state last week. Frickin Wisconsin. The Midwest. We were bred to be nice I just can’t believe it what the world is coming to.

Howdy sir badger! Well I hope that Germany stays WAY behind the times! Our culture is becoming more and more mentally and emotionally unstable over here.
