Day 31

My first comp for the year is in less than a month... and I've got a lot of work to do. Since I've been on Australian Ninja Warrior that means I have to compete in the Pro Division alongside all the super great American Ninja Warriors that have been training for years.

I can be an underdog, I'll just have to work harder than everyone else.

So, then, you'll be super impressed to see this list of things I was more useless than:

I intended to go to Parcors, the hardest class in the world.. but my partner was so tired... (she worked till 1am the night before... that's not cool Corporate America!) so by the time she got home and I drove out I missed the class entirely. They have Open Gym afterwards, which is basically like free time where you can work on your own specific things.

I warmed up... saw how incredibly sweaty the Parcors peeps were and barely did anything. I was tired myself (had a 2 hour nap) and all my muscles and tendons hurt when I tried to do anything. I tried this lache again and just could not get it.

I tried my January Challenge by @skiesandsports and got nowhere... biceps and forearms were burning as soon as I touched it. Here is a photo though:

Hmm, this photo doesn't show perspective... those pegs are at head height. That top part is 14ft, so it's a distance... I probably only got half way before the biceps just got up and left without me.

Anyway, so yeah... gave up on it all and drove home... did some stretches and went back to bed. Good times.

Today's exercises

Warm up
Flopping limbs around.

Parkour
Talking, complaining, doing the easiest things, drank some water.

Stretching & mobility
20 minutes

Injuries & sore spots

Biceps and forearms really sore from Ninja Class and super fast pull ups. Legs still sore from hill sprints. Generally sore and complainy.

Goals for January

  • 20 minutes of stretching every day (inspired by @polebird)
  • At least 2 classes of acroyoga (inspired by @karensuestudios)
  • Hit the top of the 14' 6" wall with both hands (December's was 14")
  • One armed pull up
  • One handed pushup (challenged by @dolladu)
  • 8 foot peg board (challenged by @skiesandsports)
  • 15 minutes of meditation and visualization every day (challenged by @just2random)

Upcoming Events

  • Ninja competition (UNAA) in Portland - 4th Feb
  • American Ninja Warrior Experience in Phoenix - 10th Feb
  • American Ninja Warrior Experience in San Diego - 3rd March

"I can be an underdog, I'll just have to work harder than everyone else."

I love this quote! Except then you go and be lazy hahahaha! True though, everyone has felt like crap and for many people just getting out of bed in the morning is the hardest task they'll do in a day so props to you for still making the effort to keep moving!

You may not have exercised your body as much as you wanted to but you increase your mental strength each time you make the effort. Maybe try increasing your meditation to an hour and learn to fully accept those days as they are. It does sound like you're ok with it though and can laugh about it, so just put in a good effort next time and know that whatever you do at least you're doing something you're clearing passionate about.

Hahahahha, I mean, it's still very true... and exactly the way I feel being here in the US... but yeah, I was mainly being inspirational just to demonstrate how lazy and sore I really was on Friday night.

I'm actually going to start the meditation today. I've never actually meditated before, and I'm a bit curious and nervous about it (which I know is ridiculous) so I'll just stick with the 15 minutes... an hour seems really daunting at this point.

I am totally okay with having the occasional unscheduled rest day. I'm still very much working out the load my body can handle in regards to the tendonitis... and ideally I'll push it enough to get stronger but not enough to get sore. Lots of people believe that rest days are where the body recovers and gets stronger... I'm not 100% convinced on that, but I'll take the resting over pushing myself to injury any day.

Thanks SG, love this comment so much! Really appreciate the smarts you bring over here.

Everybody loves a good underdog story! Best wishes on your competition!!! And working til 1am is brutal :(

Haha, thanks man! I'll have to watch Mighty Ducks 3 to really get my underdog groove on!

Yeah, I have never, ever worked that late... but she's really dedicated.

Yes! Get on that peg board ;)! I've just found out I have tendonitis in my thumb, come up in a big lump and I can't grip ANYTHING! Big time set back!!

Nice article..
