Principle of Monotheism

Tattoos, or symbols that are considered to have magical powers, have long been part of the traditions and cultures of various countries. However, in this modern era, the widespread belief in tattoos without a clear basis has sparked much discussion about the stupidity inherent in this practice. This phenomenon is a concern because it often leads to abuse of trust that is detrimental to society.

Tattoos have deep roots in the traditions of society. In the past, tattoos were used as symbols of protection or to attract good luck. Usually, tattoos are made by people who are considered to have high spiritual abilities, such as shamans or kyai. Tattoos are often written in ancient script, holy verses, or certain symbols that are believed to have mystical powers.

In a traditional context, tattoos may have deep meaning, reflecting local beliefs and cultural wisdom. However, over time, the original meaning of tattoos has begun to erode, replaced by blind faith without deep understanding. Many people today use tattoos not as part of a rich cultural tradition, but as a tool to pursue personal gain or deceive others.

Causes of the Rise of Ignorance in Rajah Beliefs

  1. Lack of Education
One of the main reasons why belief in rajah remains strong is the low level of education in some areas. Lack of understanding of science and logic makes some people easily believe in irrational things. This ignorance becomes fertile ground for the spread of baseless beliefs.

  2. Influence of Charismatic Figures
Many shamans or spiritual figures take advantage of people's belief in rajah for personal gain. They create a narrative that rajah can solve various problems, from health to wealth, without concrete evidence. These figures often use their convincing speaking skills to attract people to believe.

  3. Fear and Hope
In difficult situations, many people look for instant ways to overcome their problems. Fear of failure or suffering often makes someone seek supernatural help. Rajah is considered a quick solution, although in reality it is more often a trap that makes things worse.

  4. Influence of Social Media
Social media plays a big role in spreading belief in rajah. Many accounts promote rajah as a tool for luck or protection. With the wide reach of social media, this information spreads quickly, even without verification or criticism.

Negative Impacts of Blind Belief in Rajah

  1. Fraud
There are many cases where people are deceived by buying rajah that are promised to have certain powers. The price of this rajah can reach millions of rupiah, but it does not provide any benefits. This kind of fraud is detrimental to society economically and psychologically.

  2. Dependence
Excessive belief in rajah creates unhealthy dependence. People become lazy to try and only rely on rajah to achieve their goals. As a result, they lose the motivation to work hard or find rational solutions.

  3. Spread of Ignorance
When one person believes in rajah, this belief often spreads to others, creating a cycle of ignorance that is difficult to stop. The younger generation can also be affected, inhibiting the development of their critical thinking patterns.

  4. Social Conflict
In some cases, belief in rajah has triggered conflict in society. For example, when someone is accused of using rajah to harm others, this can trigger conflict between individuals or groups.

How to Overcome Ignorance in Belief in Rajah

  1. Improving Education
Education is the main key to fighting ignorance. The government and non-governmental organizations need to improve access to education in remote areas. Educational materials should also include teaching about critical thinking and logic, so that people can distinguish between facts and myths.

  2. Awareness Campaign
Awareness campaigns about the dangers of blind belief in tattoos need to be intensified. Mass media, social media, and community leaders can play an important role in disseminating this information. Campaigns must touch the hearts of the people by providing concrete examples of the harm caused by blind belief.

  3. Strengthening the Law
The government must take firm action against fraudsters who use tattoos as a tool of crime. Severe punishment can have a deterrent effect and protect the community from exploitation.

  4. Cultural Approach
In addressing this problem, it is important not to forcibly eradicate traditions. Instead, a cultural approach that respects local values needs to be taken. Tattoos can be preserved as part of art and culture, without needing to be associated with irrational mystical beliefs.

  5. The Role of Religion
Religious leaders can help educate the community about the importance of adhering to the true teachings of religion. Religion often teaches that effort, prayer, and faith are the main keys to achieving life goals, not certain objects or symbols. The use of tattoos is often accompanied by the belief that the object has supernatural powers that can bring good luck, ward off bad luck, or protect from danger. This is a form of shirk or associating others with اللهﷻ, which is a major sin in Islam. The use of amulets and tattoos in Islam is a prohibited act because it contradicts the principle of monotheism. As Muslims, we must adhere to the true teachings of Islam and avoid all forms of shirk. There is not a single verse of the Quran or authentic hadith that justifies the use of amulets or tattoos for such purposes. Islam teaches monotheism, namely the oneness of اللهﷻ. When someone believes in the power of objects other than اللهﷻ, then he has violated the principle of monotheism.

The rampant ignorance of the belief in tattoos reflects fundamental problems in the education, economy, and culture of society. Although tattoos have historical and cultural value, the misuse of this symbol for irrational mystical purposes must be stopped. With education, awareness, and the right approach, society can understand the true value of tattoos without getting caught up in detrimental ignorance.

Joint efforts from the government, community leaders, and individuals will be needed to combat this phenomenon. In the long term, building a society that thinks critically and rationally will be the key to breaking this chain of ignorance and creating a brighter future for future generations.
