Last night after her driving class Antonia let me know that she's not ready for the responsibility with driving. Also, she wants to wait until she is eighteen.
Here is what happened. Last night the instructor was showing films on drunk driving. I had been inside and I saw one of them. However, I went outside to talk with a lady I worked at Kroger's with. Her granddaughter is also doing the class. We sat out in her vehicle talking until about ten minutes before the class let out. I had no idea how graphic the last film was. Antonia got into the car and started talking about the film. It was awful and I don't know why they showed it. Well, I didn't at that moment. I do now that I've had time to think about the reasoning.
On the drive home I offered to let her drive in an abandoned parking lot of the old KMart. She declined! The film was that graphic. Then she went on to tell me. After talking for a while she decided that a.) she's not ready to handle a hundred-thousand-plus-pound vehicle and b.) she wants to wait until she's 18. I don't give her answers to her problems. That isn't going to help her in the long run.
I was surprised this morning when she told me that she really feels like waiting is the best course of action for herself right now.
