Views and Analytics are going to be crucial for front-ends

As I'm kinda getting my Twitter game going again, mainly just to shill Steem and share some good Steem posts on there, I couldn't help but notice their Analytics page.

Even though having a following or being active there for regular accounts is of no inherent value these stats do bring in a sort of "accomplishment" or a sense of chasing for more "attention".

Ever since the viewcount was removed on Steemit the incentive to share your posts has dropped by a lot. The first front-end to bring these back, add statistics of them to accounts profile pages and in opposite to Twitter have them be public to anyone wanting to check other's stats out, will probably start getting a lot of traction on their site compared to the other Steem front-ends.

It's not big changes but it will change the dymanics quite a bit, on top of that you can add certain accounts with delegations that would incentivize these authors gathering a lot of views extra with upvotes similar to how busy.pay does, where they give authors with a big following in mvests bigger votes. An account such as steempeak.pay could instead reward people based off of that + viewcounts + adrevenue sharing such as with BAT or other means.

There are a lot of untested things yet which combined could help not just the earnings of authors actually bringing in traffic and being able to gather attention to their accounts but also market the underlying currency and front-end on it's own without needing to spend as much money on marketing directly.

What are your thoughts on this?

Do you think we are in dire need of viewcount and analytics or do you think it won't change much? Are there other things I did not think of that we could add to the mix? There was a post by @tarazkp yesterday about Publish0x and their tipping system in many different coins, I am hoping we will include something like that as well if anything after SMT's are out with their own inner markets and simple ways to tip through maybe keychain or tipping wallets where we can keep funds to be able to tip by the click of a button next to the upvote/downvote ones.

Yes Analytics, sounds good to me. Page views are a big miss but were total BS running up to them being removed due to the interfaces not talking to each other.

I wonder if there is scope for a project to pull in the page requests from each application to count up and display the views. DAO?

Yep, I strongly agree with more statistics being introduced because it gamifies and adds a point system that lays outside of the economics. Part of the problem currently on Steem is the only way to score is to get votes. Have a look at @abh12345's engagement leagues and the activity around the users there and the value of "personal stats" can be seen.

These don't even have to be very accurate, just consistent.

I think analytics has it's place as a compass, but should not be relied upon or measured on a post by post basis.

I’d love a Dashboard and I think that there are already so many tools on separate sites that if the were combined into one you’ll have the most in-depth analysis of your influence on the chain

These are the basics that we need to see being brought in. For me onboarding and user experience is the first major stepping stone the we need to overcome. After that is a proper search function and then stats would be a huge addition. As soon as this hard fork is over it's time to use the development fund to start getting these basics done.

The majority of people coming in won't care about rewards splits or node costs. They will just want to log in and use the apps in a quick and easy way. If the apps are good then any rewards are a huge bonus. People will write blogs and play games all day for no rewards so it's going to be the user experience that we need to get right on the different sites. If we have that right then the backing technology can really be used to it's full advantage.

This is an extremely important feature for content creators, particularly those in niche interests like me. Right now, I am not really incentivized to share my work with other communities (e.g., traditional message boards) outside of Steem since these people will not likely create accounts to upvote me and I have no way to assess my influence. So for me, it would be a great feature to monitor my analytics to build a platform on Steem for people who want to create content that it about something other than talking about cryptocurrency.

We call these niche markets (for example hunting, an interest of mine) but they are actually huge markets with a lot of interest of content consumers who don't likely coincide with the current userbase of Steem. For example, here is the Google trends for deer hunting (blue) vs. Steem (red). Even attracting a smaller percentage of these people as Steem users would be a great thing for the platform AND for me, but I need analytics to measure my impact.

More data. That is a key to our current world, the more data the better. We have various sites that give us various metrics but nothing is all in one place. I was a bit annoyed when the view counter went away even as screwy as it was. I am not sure if it is harder to code something to collect all the metrics from Steem versus Twitter but there is a marked difference in available metrics.

I joined Steemit February last year and was not opportune to witness the Views display but, what a good thing it would have been! Not all content readers interact with the post any further. It may not always mean the reader does not appreciate the content.
If we were to classify readers into social and passive readers, I'd say we have almost 10x more passive readers (who don't interact with posts or comment) than social readers (who interact and/or comment).

We need analytics for steemit too.

Apps with analytics + good curators = true.
The app has the business model that can attract SP delegations from investors, and community and curators work with people to surface what users wants to see.
Ideally, high votes are then placed when there is both a validation from the app of user growth and gopd views, and a community/curator valdidation that the content has value.

The analytics are really useful for business accounts. We do actually have quite a use case for business accounts...if we can catch more audience.

A business that chooses to work on here could invest heavily and upvote users that talk about them, as well as hopefully do a bit of curation. Analytics would go a long way in showing them how their advertising and engagement was working out.

Currently you would probably have to do a custom programmed system to track what users were talking about.

Could be very useful.

Might also just help seeing what your stats are and such. Of course, might be utterly depressing if you're getting shit for engagement and it turns out tons are reading your posts.

Analytics at scale are quite expensive AFAIK. Then, as you touched upon, comes the issue of bought/fake traffic. If views are integrated... won't be long before someone provides views for STEEM or sets up a "traffic exchange" service. If it increases the rewards... it will happen. And that requires data scrubbing then, which makes operating analytics even more expensive.
