Cabin Day! Kitchen Related Upgrades Inside and Out

It always feels weird to blog yesterdays events instead of getting it done before the day is done, but yesterday once I laid down, the last thing I thought about was to sit and make a post!

It was long over due by a year or 2, that we should clear up the old kitchen and building material that we had left over from the renovation which was covering the front terrace and yesterday we got it done!

In the morning the first thing we did was to go collect the rest of the grey tiles that I had spotted some days ago next to a skip, before they all got thrown out. They are floor tiles and very heavy but now we have them all here and I will use them on the work surfaces and the white ones for the wall..

The Terrace.

We had since long got more than enough fence panels and the only place they are needed was for around the edge of the front terrace where there is a dangerous drop on 2 sides.
I had already previously started to cut up the wood and had stacked some already on the wood pile, but we were shocked as to how much wood was actually there because it had always been covered with old sheet material.

..this was just as I started to cut up the wood again, I thought to take a photo.

As you can see it was quite a big area and quite a big mess!

So we spent around 3 hours in total cutting the wood between waiting for the saw battery to recharge and stacking up what we had cut. Look at how the wood pile looks now after we had finished it all!

Action!

We uncovered part of a nice stone pattern which must have had at onetime chairs and a table on it.

We still had some energy left and on the To Do list was to make a unit for a sink in the kitchen. We had the sink since a long time and we went to buy some overpriced screws which was the only thing holding it back from getting done.

And now with the main part done.

It even has a french oak finish! Oh by the way 80% of everything you see in these pictures is from the trash and has been reused.

We shall have either a gravity fed tap with a container outside, or a foot pump tap. To be honest it will be more used for tipping liquids down it in wintertime instead of opening the back door each time. There is already some kind of hill billy drainage pipe heading off down the cliff edge and we will only be using organic soaps for obvious reasons!

I finally called it a day, and cleaned up a bit and then went to walk the dogs. On the way back I found a white wall unit (one of 3 that I am soon to get from beautiful manisfestation) and when I got back up I just felt it should get put on the wall before the day was really done.

I might still move it but for now atleast its not on the floor in the way!

A few more days or a week or so and 2 identical cupboards will appear to go on the other wall for each side of the window. Its rainy here and lastnight was the first time I had seen my breath outside whilst walking. I've just lit the fire in mid August! I will go walk the dogs and get some food for them I guess. Umbrella weather!
