We live in a time when the state has it's hands in every part of our lives. A regrettable reality that most have come to accept and some have come -even more regrettably- to embrace. This is much to the detriment of liberty and a great frustration to forward free thinkers.
I explained previously that the main suppressant of human charity is taxation. The main suppressant to moral progress is state education (and guess how that's funded).
When the state controls education, it makes it's way to controlling language itself. Consider who buys the books. Who buys the dictionaries? When the primary entity creating demand in a part of the market is the government, what's to keep a company from catering to their main customer? What's keeping someone from adjusting the meaning of "anarchy" from "a lack of rulers" to "chaos?"
Once we accept this as a possibility, it's easy to see how every facet of our lives will be affected.
If they can change something from an "act of war" to a "military action" just by signing a law, then they can bomb people and still have peace with them by legal definition.
War is peace.
If they can use laws to put our entire property at the will and whim of the state, they can print the word "liberty" on our only state-approved medium of exchange and tell us we're free.
Freedom is slavery.
When they can control the medium of education and the metric by which it is graded with minimal accountability to the consumers of their product, they can create a populace that accepts that metric and believes they are smarter by the accepted definition.
Ignorance is strength.
By centralizing and isolating the delegation and dictation of morality, we change the accepted definition of morality. Subjective morality does not work. What word has replaced the objective concept of right and wrong? Nothing. So thanks to public education, we have suppressed that sense. That driving force of social progress. And we have stalled.
Learn. Take back language. Be objective.
Stay relevant y'all.
Nate.
The story of Socrates' death is a good example of what the "education" by the state eventually leads to: drones incapable of critical analysis.

Not sure you could be more on point Nate!
Unfortunately most people can't seem to open their mind enough to see what is plainly before them, and I'm sure I have plenty of blind spots too.

It's our job to educate and spread what we know about this stuff.
I had been working on moving away from my Facebook lately, but decided I have a good network there that I can spread these ideas to. So I am not leaving Facebook any more.

As do I, and that's what I mean when I say you put it succinctly. When I am in a debate, or even just talking to someone about this idea of personal freedom, I tend to get so emotional about it that I have a hard time getting my thoughts out in a coherent manner. That is why I appreciate a post like this that is clear and to the point.

Im the same way. I would far rather debate someone in writing than in person. But I'm working on it. There's so much to say that I can't get it all out right.

I probably have less of a problem of subjective morality. The bigger problem is state morality.
Also when there is talk of consent of the governed.. that can only be found by subjective morality.
The problem that separates social objectivity and empirical objectivity becomes a problem of epistemology.
Good stuff
